New White Goods and Appliances (Update)

Other

I finally bit the bullet and bought new dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier as after 20 plus years mine were giving up the ghost. I ordered what I thought were basic models, (not expensive) i dont need all the whistles and bells.

They are now installed and I realise I need a degree to work out how to use them!

Old tumble drier had 2 buttons, new one has 9 buttons and dial with 16 programmes. Old dishwasher had a prewash, 3 temp buttons and on/off, new one has a touch display with about a dozen options, and dont get me started on the washing machine!

Does anyone use all these knobs and buttons? I am still trying to work it all out and haven't used them yet!

I don't think many people use all the buttons on their white goods. Personally I tend to find which ones I need or like and stick to using just them. I think it's to make them look extra efficient and also to appeal to husbands (who just lurve buttons and gadgets) to encourage them to get their wallets out lol

EmmaWright762 I reckon you are right. My problem is using the items for the first time as instructions are often clear as mud. Once I have used once or twice I am sure I will be ok.

I was same with the council parking app my granddaughter put on my phone, used it for first time yesterday and it was brilliant, even has the facility to extend if you can't make it back in time. Well worth the 10p service charge although parking fees are far too high anyway!

Yes new appliances are well over complicated, most functions you'll never use lol, I use quick wash number 3 for our washing machine , our washing machine has WiFi, no idea why or how it works 😕

martinlufc5637 I deliberately avoided the Wi-Fi ones as I felt I would never need it. Can't really think who would. I only ever do a white wash, coloured wash and very occasionally a delicate but as there is not often a full load of those I do by hand.

Lynibis it appears that the WiFi is for using an app to program your wash so you can make it turn on while your out

martinlufc5637 I guessed that but I just used to put mine on before leaving home. I wouldn't with a tumble drier as it's a fire risk.

Lynibis I usually have a look on you tube to see how things work L , i find it easier than reading instructions

telmel that's a good idea, will do that, you can pause and rewind too. Much easier than working out instructions that may have been translated.

I use one cycle on the washing machine and one on the dishwasher the majority of the time. Occasionally I use the longer cycle but not often. Couldn't tell you what any of the other buttons do. Our ones are basic models too.

Well I still haven't mastered the dishwasher and have read long manual start to finish. There is one programme that is 298 minutes. Is it really necessary to have a 5 hour wash cycle on a dometic dishwasher? There are buttons to reset, buttons for programmes, buttons to tell you to add salt or rinse aid (after which you have to reset) and even warnings about explosions. Still handwashing until I can get help from a friend or relative!

Now I know I am getting old and senile. Just posted another topic about white goods forgetting I had posted this one!

Not very happy with the quality. Bottom freezer draw snapped in corner where side meets front, the dishwasher doesn't seem closed when in use (no click as you shut), the plates do not stand straight but lean against each other and often leaves food residue. Must be ok as it doesn't leak! The washing machine has opposite problem, so very hard to open and close I am scared of breaking it.

The tumble drier and dishwasher have enough buttons and lights to shame the Starship Enterprise🤪

Lynibis can I ask what brand washing machine you got ? Because my dad's in a beko that's a nightmare to start a wash you have to really slam it for it to lock lol

Leannexxx it's an indesit, same as my previous one. The facade looks a bit different but it has same dials and buttons etc.
