No 80% off Ebay Listings This Weekend - is It Going to End?
Other
This has been available like clockwork for quite a while, every other weekend a decent discount on selling fees but this weekend eBay has not offered it. Is this a blip or is it going to be the norm now. Does it mean we should stop listing this weekend as much as possible to motivate eBay to bring back the discount? I'm planning on concentrating on facebook marketplace listing this weekend now. Ebay fees are so expensive and they have a monopoly it seems for national and international listings although for local sales they aren't really worth it nowadays. Are you listing on ebay this weekend?
That would be a bummer if they stop offering reduced listing fees.
As you say, they've been doing it every fortnight for as long as I remember.
Saved myself a fair few quid over the years.
I don't use e bay much B, so i cannot really comment on this, but as with everything , as yazz used to sing ' the only way is up'
My husband and daughter noticed this as they use it all the time. My daughter does well selling stuff on vinted, mainly clothes.
I have noticed in recent months that it's started on a Saturday night or Sunday morning, when it would normally be Friday, eBay has gotten so bad lately
I've been wondering the same and no sight of it. Most of the sales I make are via Vinted nowadays, but it's disappointing as I'd post alternatively on eBay if I wouldn't sell it there.
I sell my old stuff reasonably regularly and I have found they sometimes miss a few weeks of the promotion then it comes back. That said, I noticed the promotions page that I used to use has been completely deleted so I do have a feeling it may have ended for good. Seems an odd choice, because platforms like Vinted and Facebook Marketplace are free to sell on, so surely it will just push people to go there instead.
Is vinted international though or just uk? I guess it depends on what you are looking for and trying to sell.
Jerseydrew They do cover a variety of countries, but in the U.K. you'll only buy/sell to the U.K., not sure if they do internationally.
I like that they provide a paid shipping label so I don't need to buy it myself.
Jerseydrew Yeah, and you get the full amount you sold it for. Any fees, the buyer pays for it.
EBay never use to offer the 80% off quite so often, when I first started selling a few bits it would be a good couple of months before there were any offers, sometimes it would be a £1 final fee or 50% off. September and October is a popular time for listings due to people sorting out for Christmas I think in previous years, I had to wait until November to get a seller offer. I expect they’re just taking a break like they always used too. With it now being free to sell clothes, I was expecting the offers to be become less. I still prefer to buy and sell on EBay due to the faster payments and both buyer and seller protection
Annoyingly too the Royal Mail are increasing prices on October 7th too. Weirdly there has been reports of 'free to sell' popups coming up on ebay. I had one myself so not sure what is happening as when I clicked on it, it didn't go anywhere useful. So feels like a big announcement is coming. Perhaps a certain number of free selling opportunities per month before you are charged. We will have to wait and see. I guess ebay are seeing a big decline in listings nowadays with facebook marketplace, vinted etc. One thing I noticed was it excluded selling cars when the popup came up.
Yes 300 free listings a month for private sellers. I probably list about 200 items a month so sweet for me. However I do ship some items internationally and those have fees but I think they are less than before but the big dispute fee of £16.80 if there is a chargeback dispute and you are found at fault. I don't quite understand that, as already ebay favours buyers over sellers so a chargeback fee is really annoying. Still not worth selling on ebay for local collection only though as payment has to be made through ebay and could be reversed later. Anyway sellers will be under even more pressure to cave in to unfair buyers with that chargeback fee. I.e. you sell something as new 4 months ago and it goes wrong and the buyer instigates a chargeback with the credit card company so you end up with a forced refund and a dispute fee on top this will now forcibly apply to local collection items because you can't request cash payments to prevent this.
This is great news regarding fees but as ever you have to use your common sense when to use ebay. I think they have made a mistake about international selling though. They really should add the fees to global shipping costs because I think the effect will be many people will now toggle off the global shipping option and only sell within the UK. Sellers get less if the item is sold to a buyer outside the UK. So for buy it now items its likely people will turn off that option.
BonzoBanana I received an email today saying they are removing the transaction fee's for selling, does that mean no fees for selling an item or the 30p fee they charge? Confused
martinlufc5637 Absolutely correct, ebay no longer charge you the 30p listing fees or charge you the 15% which means that you get the full amount that your item sells for, but I believe this is only for private sellers.
pato oh ok, I have a few things to list, no fees on them is great, thanks for the info
martinlufc5637 Your welcome, the only issue I see with this is the postage, I sold an item yesterday for £16.99 and was paid out today, however I offer free postage which comes off my funds, that means that when I sell my next item the postage will need to come off that sale. so technically I owe ebay about £3.
pato Also there is talk of ebay putting fees on the buyers like an auction house and Vinted I believe so you get what you listed it for but the buyer pays a little bit on top. Also ebay have been hassling people to become business sellers now plus ebikes and components can no longer be sold by private sellers. So quite a lot of changes going on at ebay.
SaveMeSunday They got rid of it and it's free now.
So it's much better, but I'll be honest I still prefer the Vinted route although I'll use eBay as an option to sell.
Going to list items today.
PhilipMarc Didn't I read it starts on the 16th October? Maybe I read that wrong.
BonzoBanana That's the funds they'll stay in your eBay account or be withdrawn.
I've relisted and listed what I had to sell.
PhilipMarc This is so much better. I don’t use it but my daughter and husband do all the time. I get them to sell stuff for me.
eyeballkerry I've been selling items more often these days thanks to the no fees, and even though I still have to pay for the shipping label, eBay provides the labels on their website ready to buy with all the info.
Don't think I'll be using Parcel2Go much more these days.
Ebay business sellers are getting a raw deal. They still have selling charges so it puts them at a disadvantage. Still its great for me as I try to reduce all the stuff I've hoarded over the years.
BonzoBanana It makes sense as they are business sellers.
This is their incentive to try and regain customers they've lost.
Pleased to see that a bicycle cassette I listed sometime ago also had zero fees applied to its sale. I literally had every single penny of the sold price paid to me.
Looking at reports ebay has been forcing more private sellers into being business sellers. Many business sellers are annoyed and thinking about having private ebay accounts to save on fees too. So it may get a bit messy. The recent change that private sellers can no longer sell ebikes, ebike components, kits and battery packs is another change. Ebay may consider those who don't use any of the ebay sales money for ebay purchases as more likely business sellers. So making your ebay account look like a normal private account with both sales and purchases could be important.
