Northumberland Holiday
Ask a Question
Thinking about booking a holiday to Northumberland has anyone been on holiday there?
Its it ok for all the family?
Many thanks
I have never ventured that far but would like to see more of England. We have so many hidden gems in the uk, I think it’s just the weather that puts people off travelling in the uk and the high accommodation prices!
Your so right I just noticed the accommodation prices in Northumberland seemed more expensive than alot of places and wondered if it was worth paying that much extra and if it was a family sort of place!
rowley1943 it’s a lot cheaper than the Lake District and other popular holiday areas like Devon and Cornwall.
Just come back from there. We were amazed how quiet the roads were and the scenery was beautiful. Can thoroughly recommend. Head for Bamburgh, Holy Island and the many many beaches.
dawarwick thank you so much will.do the pictures look lovely I've just looked up Bamburgh Castle Wow!
The castle is right on the beach. There is a big car park opposite with reasonable tourist prices but you can find free parking nearby if you’re early or get lucky
I've been to Bamburgh Castle before and it was beautiful. We only went for the day as at the time we lived about 3 hours away. This was about 6 or 7 years, but we had an amazing time and it was reasonable to get in.
MrsCraig looked it up.but can't take the dog in so will just look from the beach thank you so much it sounds great
Loads of places to visit in Northumberland as long as you have a car. Bamburgh castle is popular along with town called seahouses just south of Bamburgh. Holy island is another popular place just make sure you travel at low tide as your car won’t float . Another popular place more inland is Alnwick with its castle used in Harry Potter and a railway station converted into a book shop. Plenty of other castles and historic sites dotted about. There is a small zoo in Northumberland and also you can pop across the border easily into Scotland. A lot people enjoy the peace and quiet in Northumberland.
There is a loads of beautiful castles here. As others have said, Bamburgh Castle is lovely as are the surrounding areas. Craster & Seahouses are childhood favourites of mine & still has the best fish n chips imo. =) You can take boat trips over to Farne Islands to see Seals & Puffins in season. Alnwick is a pretty little town & has Alnwick Castle/ Gardens which are both worth a visit. Hexham also is a beautiful town. If you can travel a little further out to Durham they have a beautiful cathedral. I'd also highly recommend a day out at Beamish museum, great day out for all ages
We were there for a week in June, 4 adults and we stayed in a lodge at Haven Haggerston Castle (booked via Sykes Cottages).
It is our 3rd time over a period of about 15 years. Lots of lovely towns nearby, castles and abbeys. We went to Edinburgh one day which isn’t far.
It really depends on what you like to do as a family and if you have a car.
We took a 7 year old and a 1 year old, they loved both Bamburgh and Alnwick castles. There's loads to do for kids there
We loved Northumberland. A castle lovers paradise. Don't expect blistering heat. Take wetsuits for younger kids for paddling etc
I live in Northumberland and it is a beautiful place, loads to do and see. It's getting more and more popular last couple of years. I rent out lodges and a log cabin next door to the zoo mentioned.
Yes I have been there its beautiful loads of places to visit try visit holy island make sure its low tide not much there but it's a nice experience
Northumberland is well worth a visit so many places to see Alnwick castle is were Harry Potter was filmed great place the beaches are lovely Seahouses is a nice place I can’t fault any where enjoy
Absolutely fabulous just back from Amble lovly place, and went to Bamborough Castle fabulous:
Just came back from there, we go regularly the beaches are great, the history of Northumberland along with the scenery is fantastic.
Can recommend a visit if you have never been before
Northumberland is fantastic, but I'm biased being born and raised in the north of the county. Plenty to do via the wonderful beaches, coastal walks, castles a plenty, stately homes, inland walks (Ingram is good and has a small visitor centre). Train from Alnmouth will get you into Edinburgh in 65 minutes, Newcastle in 30 or Berwick 40. Barter Books in old railway station in Alnwick great if a wet day as it has a cafe. There is also a road train running at weekends around Alnwick. Enjoy, just remember raincoats and strong shoes.
Went & stayed in Newcastle 15th 19th May,did the trip by train to Edinburgh & its Castle, went to Alnmouth then on to Alnwick by train & bus, both fab days out then did Newcastle...Lived & loved every moment, friendly folk..x
