OAP, 69, Turned Away from His GPs Surgery Telling Him He Was Dead
In the News
If it wasn't so serious it could be something from a monty python comedy sketch , except it wasn't a parrot that was deceased !
When this man went to see his doctor about his bowel cancer they told him he was dead and refused to help him
To make it worse he said the staff were grinning as they told him , knowing it must be a data error
So he was forced to go home to get his passport to show them he was very much alive
Even then, he had to wait 24 hours for everything to be updated
So this is how people are treated now regardless of their age and health, a total disrespect
I know i would be demanding an apology or alternatively stand there playing this simple minds hit , showing they are simple and i am alive and kicking !
This is the grim reality of a system where there’s no ‘care’ in healthcare for patients especially at the GP end. We are all viewed as an inconvenience despite paying their wages which they’re always complaining about. Then they expect us to treat them like they’re gods, no-one is working for free and they can retire early(and we have let them get this ego complex) we have put up with far too much for to long, it needs to change. To treat a 69 with no respect is disgusting. I would be making a GMC complaint amongst others. I’m sure the people coming on the boats have no difficulties accessing a GP.
Gromit22 You are so right G, especially about the power trip these people go on , at the end of the day they are doing the same job as a shop assistant , except dishing out appointments instead of food items
Of course not all receptionists are like this, only those that want to feel self important
Is this a new Starmer/Reeve policy for us oldies, just remove us and we'll go away? GP surgeries and Data annoy me. Twice in 10 days I had a text message saying I had missed an appointment. The first I was actually sitting in the surgery waiting for my appointment, the auto arrival had failed, the second time it wasn't even my appointment but for someone completely different. Staff were very reluctant to remove these 'misses' from my record but I insisted especially when it wasn't my fault and surgery has a 3 strikes and out policy.
telmel Nope. I also had to put my request in writing explaining why it was wrong.
lilyflower Just as i thought L , i would definitely have put in a complaint , maybe even to your local MP
telmel Wouldn't have done any good, I'm still waiting 15 months on from the last time I contacted her. Oh she's no longer a MP!
lilyflower not really sure this is linked to starmer or the labour government. This thing was happening when the tories were in as well.
As always, a data entry error can happen but the problem is these sort of things don’t seem to be handled with any common sense.
lilyflower glad you stood up for yourself that's unfair on you. I bet others have had that and not pushed and given into the surgery
Since COVID, doctors surgeries don't care, our local practice changed to Healthcare First and boy they are shocking, you never see same doctor so the patient/doctor relationship has gone
telmel it's all to do with saving money, GP surgeries are now a business and Not a health care facility, and we the patients are costing them money, so they do what they can to dampen down the costs, I normally get a blue inhaler every 30 days, they are changing it to every 90 days, complete joke
martinlufc5637 I haven't seen the same doc for a decade or more. Most of my appointments are with a nurse but mostly the same one. I also haven't seen a white British doctor for about 45 years and it just goes to show Brits are not interested in training to be in health care.
GP surgeries are an absolute joke, I never go doctors tbh as never seems any appointments anyway. Just deal with any issues I have and carry on
I mean how does this happen? Makes me wonder who should have been marked off as dead and classed as still alive. Those poor families
MelissaLee1 I saw this article the other day where a company had built a twin euthanasia pod for a couple to pass away together, because the wife has early-stage vascular dementia
This is so offensive, especially considering his age and medical condition. So many people shouldn't be working in health care
I really don’t understand how this is possible, why was he don’t on their records if was his GP . Major human error/ or two people with same name on their books.. shocking
admin errors like this do happen quite often, but can usually be sorted quickly and certainty shouldn't mean that patients who are clearly alive are being sent away because the computer says they are dead. It is embarrassing when these things happen but most patients understand and will often laugh it off as long as they are treated fairly and seen. If this patient really was treated like this then its really poor.
He should have played not just Simple Minds classic Alive & Kicking but gave the surgery a blast of Simple Minds other classic DON'T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME..
which includes the line ..
As you walk on by, will you call my name or will you walk away.....
( We had this played at my brother M's funeral when he passed away aged 51)
Shocking behaviour for that surgery to treat the man like that..
The receptionists seem very nice at my surgery but earlier this year I booked a covid jab and it all went through on the system but when I turned up they refused to do it. I explained I was in hospital 4 times with covid and on oxygen 3 times, I have damaged lungs due to covid etc but still refused at a different surgery that was doing the injections. I now have zero confidence in booking an injection knowing I might be refused when I get there. I've asked my surgery whether I qualify for a winter covid jab as well as flu but they have yet to get back to me. It's only been 2 days though. Call me mad but I expect the online booking to tell me whether I have the right to the injection or not, not book it and make a special journey sometimes miles away and be refused when I get there. These processes should be sorted out and more robust. Just seems amateur in how they are implemented.
I will try to keep this brief. My friend's friend went to hospital, day appointment, to have a biopsy (which it turned out was unnecessary) and whilst there it went wrong and caused her lungs to fill with blood, this set off a heart attack and then a stroke. My friend and the family took care of all her needs as each time she went to recovery from icu there was never a nurse on the ward. One even asked if she'd had her medication to which the patient said, aren't you supposed to know that? And for the reply, yeh, if it's been recorded on the notes.
The final drama was family turning up one morning and couldn't wake her, turned out she was in a diabetic coma, no one having seen her for 2 hours.
(As an extra to this, lady in next bed had a seizure and couldn't breathe so my friend ran off to find a nurse only to be told, I'll be there in a minute, to which my friend said , no you'll be there now!)
Throughout this her call for toilet or water was mostly ignored, two weeks on she is still 'inside' as one arm and leg still bad from stroke.
If there is another pandemic I hope no one will be asking me to stand outside rattling pans.
