Would You Padlock Your Milk in the Communal Fridge at Work ?
In the News
I know food prices are increasing rapidly but padlocking your milk at work ???
I didn't even know you could buy a mechanism to lock a bottle until today, there is a link below if anyone wants to order one
I would not be so bothered about someone using mine, more so if they necked it straight from the container
It might be better using the vending machine just in case

If someone wanted to be petty surely they could just pierce the plastic bottle pretty quickly
I probably wouldn't bother using a communal work fridge. I'm not much of a hot drink, drinker anyway so wouldn't have to worry much. I'd just pop one of these in my bag (well I am actually thinking of doing this for every day) as I seem to have reactions to certain food and drinks, yet allergy tests haven't brought anything up. So would mean I have something to hand if going somewhere, but not sure if this would come across rude at someone's house or if not drinking anything at all would be more rude
When I had lunch at work I just took it in my bag or jacket and hung it up or when I had a locker I put it in there, you didn't have fridges when you went to school. I rarely used the kitchen/dining area at work, only when it was my cleaning duty day (we took it in turns to clean up the canteen/kitchen area.)
DeBunny I love these handy little juice bottles. We took these on holiday for kids to drink when in Italy 7yrs ago when my daughter got married. Since then we always take them with us on holiday and I always keep 1 in my bedroom for when I bring glass of water to bed. Great size to put in ur pocket and don’t take up much room in ur suitcase
Where I used to work there was a fridge in the office and the night shift used to help themselves to whatever they fancied so there was a padlock attached to the door for the people that actually stored their food in it lol.
Milk was always going 'missing' from our office fridge, whole bottles of it! I used to take a small container and marked it 'Goat milk' - I always had milk
If it was full fat yes, skimmed I would not bother. If someone was that desperate I would let them have it.
It is pretty annoying when someone takes your stuff, with milk I wouldn’t mind the odd person but not everyone. I think I’d be more likely to just take powdered milk or something
No but then I wouldn't use a communal fridge - not that trusting of other people having access to my food/drinks!
The price of milk yes
Worked in places where you had to share fridge n cupboards
Ended up in my locker
We have a communal fridge at work. People write their names on personal things. Other things are purchased for inhouse so first come first served. Remember the Humphreys?

We had a milk fund everywhere I have worked. Everyone put in the same amount and someone bought milk for the staff room out of the fund. Each department had a separate staff room so the departments were responsible for how they figured out milk, tea, coffee.
telmel there was a communal staff room, but was only used when every department needed to meet. So we all had our own wee staff rooms and our staff room always had a fund and whoever bought the milk, tea, coffee and sugar, told us when we needed to replenish the fund. It worked well for us over the years.
telmel - My employer supplies the milk and very, very cheap biscuits. I wouldn't dream of paying for the milk let alone lock it.
Where I work there Is Milk available at all times so Its a no for me. Locking your Milk up seems ridiculous.
No ! I used to do this but people just helped themselves. I wrote my name on it to make it absolutely clear still happened. Then the next time they even took the tab of as it was brand new and nicked it. All they had to do is ask . Don't do it anymore keep mine in a little cool bag.
Good idea in an ideal world no one would touch it, however sticky fingers thumbs up, i should try it at home with my fave snacks x
I used to take a small Tupperware containing enough for the day but after it kept going missing I started using lemon tea. I would occasionally buy those instant sachets of coffee or hot chocolate.
I would be embarrassed to do this. But I do feel sorry for people who have their food/drink pinched.
Nadiaparveen You would think the people stealing it in the first place would be embarrassed too but some are probably so hard faced they don't care
We have a tea club in work, so this isn't an issue although sometimes other teams use ours but it isn't an issue. But for this to be on the market others can't be as easy going.
lol i wouldn't take it that far. would be easier to have a small bottle in a cool bag under ya desk if you wanted to ensure you didn't go without.
