Paid Time off When It's HOT?

I think it’s a bad idea, it’s a nice thought in principle but where would the money come from? Also a lot of companies did dodgy things during the covid furlough so they would probably do that again.

No chance people work in same heat plus abroad . Plus most places have air conditioning.

How ridiculous I think many working in hospitality especially chefs and kitchen staff are used to working in high temperatures.

Not sure how a business could actually cope with such a random thing.

No there shouldn't be paid time off when it is hot. I've been at work when it was 30° outside and much hotter inside and we just had to get on with it.

Many businesses are struggling to survive and already have huge taxes to pay and other benefits they must pay to their employees. This all adds to their costs and makes them less competitive. In a manufacturing company this is hugely damaging meaning they have no chance of competing with imported products. We are a bankrupt nation and at some point we must start focusing on rebuilding manufacturing and farming.

Importing high levels of goods and services is hugely damaging and why the government is paying 10s of billions of pounds a year just in interest which is having a huge knock on effect to the NHS, police etc who are gradually losing real levels of funding. We need to get back to reality and our circumstances rather than look for new benefits for people as we become further indebted we will start losing many such existing benefits.

Already the winter fuel benefit for the elderly is being scaled back and that is with a 10 percent increase in pricing. So many will be cold this winter. Many elderly don't claim the benefits they are entitled to like 'Pension Credit' so won't get the winter fuel money because its linked to that. Often they don't claim because they don't know how and are not that skilled with filling forms, using computers etc and maybe suffering from reduced mental capacity.

Depends on the job and the type of building. Those in the building trade working outside should be able to not work.

Those saying kitchen staff are used to heat there's being used to it and then it being dangerous. Same as we've aircon. My place of work doesn't. It's to hot in summer and freeze in the winter.

How are businesses going to survive if they do this? Many are struggling as it is. Who is going to foot the bill for the workers?

Where does it say hitting 30C?, my weather app for the next 10 days is saying 19c at best, mostly cloudy this week

On the recent heat we had the other week where I worked got over 36 as a constant temp all day. We do a lot of heavy lifting and does take it out of you

No absolutely not. I work in a kitchen self employed, yes it’s hard work but I just get on with it.

I'd love to know what part of the country is getting 30 degree weather?! My weather app is saying max 21C but its still cloudy so its miserable anyway! I only want heat if the suns out! I don't think we should be doing this though, fans and air con exist - we can all cope for a short while.
