Parcel Thefts from Doorsteps Soaring

In the News

With the cost of living crisis more thieves are turning to stealing your delivered parcels from the doorstep

They don't know what is inside the wrapping but do know the bigger the item probably the more it is worth

I have seen a few videos on you tube of this happening , a car pulls up, the passenger jumps out and snatches the parcel

And with the ring doorbell you can capture the thief in action

But sometimes the thief is not who you expected it to be

There were girls at my school when I was a teenager who kept pinching my lunch.I told my dad who was a butcher and he made the sandwichs the next day and gave me fair warning not to eat them.I was never bothered again. He filled them with raw offal and lights.Had it coming lol.Could put something unseemly in a box as well.

telmel I've seen you tube videos of people from America i think of people who place boxes that are filled with glitter, cameras and all sorts of rubbish on porches for these people and when they open the boxes all hell breaks loose as they aren't expecting it

I think delivery companies have to change and wait for the door to be answered or ask a neighbour to take in the parcel.

Pjran They are the best options P, but they are too rushed to do this, and thats down to the companies and their timelines

As a result of this, I have turned to having as many deliveries as possible delivered to pickup locations.

The delivery companies don’t care either. I’m still in dispute with DPD as they are saying a package was delivered to a local corner shop but it’s not there. The proof they’re using is a GPS tag and a picture of the parcel infront of the store.

Pretty clear what’s happened but they think that proof is enough.

jms19 I'd put a complaint in with the company who you ordered the items from as your contract is with them not the delivery company. They choose the delivery company to use not you

MarkStrong yeah I’ve contacted them several times and they said cause DPD claim it’s been delivered that’s the end of it.

I’ve disputed through paypal but it’s just annoying cause I’m the one that ends up out of pocket.

Its not fair is it. but i cant see how this can be stopped without a secure safe place for parcels to be left and most people don't have a safe enough place. I usually choose to have mine delivered on a Sunday so i know we will be home.

I think delivery companies need to change the way they are doing it. I watched one deliver a parcel abd just place it in neighbours garden. Anyone who had a bad mind could have taken it. Just taking a photo although proof isn't proof that the buyer received it.

I was waiting for a DPD delivery today, saw them turn up on my cctv then 2 mins later drive off again. Went outside thinking I must have blinked and missed them coming to my door but nothing there. Went back upstairs to check on my delivery status to find it had been delivered, so back outside I go and find my package leaning against my fence on the public footpath going past my house. There is no lock on my gate only a thumb latch so I can't believe they were to lazy to deliver it properly as It was small enough to fit through the letterbox.

Well sadly the delivery drivers like evry & other parcel delivery drivers who leave the items in a safe space & take pictures & they at times steal themselves or leave it in a place visible to everyone or even visible to ones who normally look out in people gardens or small area outside the house even though it have walls still they look over the walls & if they find anything they take it, even during Christmas council left sweets for disable kids just outside the house on the window wall it was stolen by someone in the evening when it clearly said on the paper so evil people are out there who don't care from where they get stuff they just take it sadly
