Would You Pay for Facebook?

Ask a Question

Facebook and other social media platforms are a good way to keep in contact with people you may not see often. If they decided to charge, would you pay for it?

I mainly use Facebook to share missing cat and dog posts rather than messaging people, so I feel I could live without it.

Could you give it up??

Pinkspirit I think that’s the way it could go. They always said they would never have adverts. That didn’t last long…

No definitely NOT. I only have Facebook for Marketplace and nothing else. I dont or would not have any friend requests on there too. It`s like having a second Ebay to me. Thats all I use It for.

Emerge11 I don’t use fb for much myself. I know people that post their whole lives on it. Don’t know how they would cope without a it

I have family on fb, overseas too, it's nice to be in touch that way, however I hardly post on there. I would pay, depending on the costs x

I hate myself for even using it and would no way pay to use it. Have you heard that they are making a move toward this? The only thing I couldn't do without is YouTube as there is nothing worth watching on tv these days. I actually don't consider YouTube as social media as for me it is a one way street.

Lynibis I had heard that they might charge for it. It wouldn’t bother me giving it up. I like YouTube too

Lynibis Don't you get sick of all the ads? They drive me mental.

It's the same with YouTube Music. I managed to get a 5 month free trial with Amazon music with no ads and I'll probably pay for the subscription when the trial is over

TheChimp they certainly do. I am waiting to sort out my tv etc so I will maybe cancel sky, possibly tv licence and then just go ad free on YouTube as I am watching it so much. And the permitted ones.

PS I don't know if you saw my chat on Dominic Frisby but you strike me as a person who would like his humour and anti woke outlook😊

I would stop using it. I used to use it to keep in contact with some family and friends but now I use WhatsApp. I do find Facebook useful for groups that I share common ground with though. So mainly groups and companies/adverts I’m interested in. I still use messenger and find it useful especially to contact some businesses.

JLouM I find the opposite for contacting businesses. Whether they don’t look at their social media often, or perhaps get too many messages yours gets lost - I can’t get a hold of people within a decent timeframe. I’ve just reverted back to the old way of calling a business up

Leannexxx they could well start charging, but it may be a small amount per person, 99p per month or whatever. It still wouldn’t convince me to stay

I won’t pay for Facebook I don’t think but it depends on the cost and what they are giving you for your money . I don’t really use Facebook much anyway so it wouldn’t be a big loss to me.

Consumer did they start charging people for twitter or X if that’s what it goes by now? I’ve never quite understood twitter

PayItForward 👋 Yes - X has a subscription element. Now that it's changed hands, going from Twitter to X, I think it turned from a usable platform to one I don't like...

Absolutely not !!!!!

I don’t use Facebook anymore the only social media I use occasionally is Instagram and I would stop straight away if they started to charge.

reannsgran this is it. We have phones we can text people on and ring them. I wouldn’t be caught paying for social media

Not a chance. Not use it as it’s free, or rather I can put up with it’s annoying ads/marketing to use it. But if it’s going to cost me money, I’ll use my time elsewhere

I only use facebook for marketplace and that is only occasionally. I certainly wouldn't pay for it especially as I rarely use it anyway. It's funded by advertising and I guess those advertising costs are added to the products we buy so we are all paying for facebook I guess anyway although I don't tend to buy many goods that are advertised so I doubt if I'm personally paying much. I'm not currently subscribing to anything, buy supermarket own brand labels and my clothes isn't big brands either. I don't buy cosmetics and almost everything I buy is on price mainly rather than brand. I use adblockers too so most adverts online are blocked anyway.

I don't even use it. 😅

I've got an account on Twitter, but I feel like deleting it. It's such a mess over there with people getting all high and mighty 'cause they get likes.

Elon Musk might have made it slightly better, but that's about it.

No, I wouldn't pay for any social media platform. I rarely use Facebook, so wouldn't really miss it. If they did start charging, other free platforms would soon appear to entice users who refuse to pay.

I could very easily give it up. I hardly use any social media sites. I have used to put on my lost cat. She came back on her accord. My daughter has a business and puts loads on so I like and share but that’s about it.
