With prices increasing in every aspect of life, I’m interested to know how much people are paying to maintain their hair.
A friend is paying £120 for her colour. A cut is £40. Is this the new norm??
BonzoBanana your savings have covered your hair cutter anyway. That’s brilliant. I think a lot of people have stuck to doing their own hair since covid
PayItForward I was surprised to find my brother was also doing his again because of covid. Seems like Covid has been hugely damaging to hairdressers at least gents hairdressers financially. The Wahl cutter was only about nine pounds I think and looks like it will last a huge number of years with great build quality.
I use to have a full head of highlights with a cut, wash and blow dry from a mobile hairdresser as l don't like being in a salon, she would charge me £50 and l always gave a £5 tip, I've moved too many miles away from her now and have to go to a salon, l go roughly once every four months as its £80 for highlights and an extra £40 for the cut, wash and blow dry. Yes they have a skill to make me feel beautiful but l cannot afford £120 every six weeks, which is what is needed for my roots., although l do trim my own fringe regularly, my hairdresser says l can pop into the salon and they do it for free..
Pinkspirit that’s quite a jump in price from what you were paying before you moved. It’s a lot of money to fork out
PayItForward l need a hairdresser friend who will give me a discount rate 
, or maybe l should be my dull mousey brown, Nope l need to have highlights as it makes me feel happier in myself 
Pinkspirit if they make you happy - that’s the most important thing. I’ve a friend who spends a lot on hair, nails, facials etc - but it makes her happy. She doesn’t go out often, doesn’t drink or smoke etc. So I say, you do you 
I do my own as in cut it. I don't go for a style just trim it. It's getting expensive but then so is the costs to run a business. The amount of electricity that's needed to run a hairdressers or barbers is unreal. Let alone things like rent
Jerseydrew this is it. A few salons have closed and set up mobile/at home services. Rent, insurance, products, electricity - they’ve all went up
I don't pay to have my hair done as I do it myself.I have a short style and I am quite happy with the way it looks.I stopped going to the hairdressers as I did not like putting my neck over the bowl which I uncomfortable.I used to have it coloured but have stopped that too.
I cut my own hair. I get my husband to check that it is even. I cut my husbands hair and my sons too. I never liked going anyway so I've found that this works for me.
MrsCraig that’s brilliant. I can’t cut wrapping paper straight even with the lines on them lol.
PayItForward I just take my time. I use my husbands clippers as I find it gives a straighter cut. Funnily enough I'm not great at cutting wrapping paper either.
possy it’s lovely getting your hair done isn’t it. I love hair day. That’s quite a good price for a cut and colour
PayItForward it is, my hairdressers is a dead joke for signal so no phone either it’s great. Yes my hairdresser is very very reasonable, not in a town just a small village x
It’s pretty normal depending on where you live. I now use a mobile hairdresser who changes £100 highlights including toner.
LL81 I think highlights seems to be a big expense. I just get an all over colour and cut when I get mine done.
I tend to get my hair dye when it was on offer and I leave it as long as I can to do it.
I only dye my hair as my natural colour doesn't suit my natural skin tone it makes me look unwell 
it improves my mood and makes me feel more 'me' so it is one of the treats I give myself. Although it didn't take to my hair last time, it must have been a hormone issue or a dodgy batch of dye, so I'm tempted to try and leave it and see what happens 
Hairdressers: if I'm honest I hate the whole experience, the awkward chat, the facing the mirror etc. I either get a home hairdresser, I make sure I wash it myself and let them leave it wet so I try my best to get it under £30 or I try and see who is training and apply for a free cut with them, this is just often in the day time and takes a lot longer as it is someone trying to fill their portfolio and training needs, that's fine with me if it saves me £50+ which most hairdressers are just for a cut and blow dry in the South East and I'm usually very open to what they need for their work, they are welcome to test things out on me. I do however tend to give them a little something for their time and work.
DeBunny going into a salon isn’t for everyone. If you can do your own hair and t works for you that’s great
SassyBee001 if they are coming to you and cutting it, £20 is quite good. Sometimes it’s just easier having it done in your own home
My hairdresser Sarah used to work in Sheffield City Centre in a well known salon.Sarah has done my hair for years & charges me £35 for a Cut & Colour..
I always tip Sarah £5 & have given her a few items I no longer need over the years..

Hairdresser Sarah used to do my daughter 's hair from being a toddler, she would cut & plait it for NOTHING, then as daughter got into her teens Sarah charged £7 then when Covid cane in Sarah asked if she could charge our Student Radiographer Daughter £10, I told her yes & was surprised she hadn't charged her more before..
Our 25 year old daughter washes her own hair & Sarah does the rest.
Wow interesting prices I pay £175 some time more and we pay £25 for little ones hair cut,so bit expensive here our side never mind as longer your getting good service I’m happy 
M1321 ...We live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Sarah is a family friend who has done mine, my daughter C, my 2 sisters hair for years, my neices & my great niece G who turns 8 today..
If you live down south you earn more than us northerners & will pay out more!
My Niece N turned 24 on 22nd August, she's at Sheffield University & works weekends at JD Sports. N . paid £140 to have her hair dyed at in Sheffield City Centre she told me when I complimented her on her hair!

M1321 ...That's fine, you don't need to share where you live, I was just explaining Sheffield is cheaper than down south if you lived that way out..I'm blessed by God, Catholic & go to Mass when not working..Sarah's a family friend through doing our hair, got to know her through my sister who lives near her Dad ..

We have soo many settle here as it's near to Peak District & soo green , we have lots of parks & green spaces.. 
I like Sheffield but wish the council would stamp down on littering!
Was visiting my partner 's family in Northern Ireland a few week ago & everywhere was clean, hanging baskets everywhere..
Partner's family who moved over from Portadown years ago moved back with their children who are now grown up with families of their own, their Sheffield born partner's are happier in Northern Ireland too..
A beautiful friendly place as is Southern Ireland where my late Dad's family were from..
I don't. Last time I was at the hairdresser, or was supposed to be, was the day we went into Covid lockdown the first time. Never been back since. Clipped it off, can't go back now.
Jinky67 oh wow. You aren’t the first person I’ve heard this happen to. I know a few people that haven’t been back since covid for their hair. Nails too
I have cut and colour I have long hair costs me around £75 from a mobile hair dresser
SaveMeSunday that’s quite a good price for a cut and colour. Especially if you have long hair and they come to you
I just got mine coloured and cut 2 weeks ago and it was £47 but I’ve short hair. Daughter and granddaughter went last week, granddaughters was £57 cos she’s got long hair while daughters was £65 cos she got added toners r something. She also has long hair. Wash,cut and blow dry is anything from £24-£28
chele44 those prices seem quite reasonable. It’s the ones charging over a hundred pounds for a colour I can’t get my head around
I pay £8 for a dry cut although she often wets and shampoos it. I dye it myself maybe the difference is she cuts hair in a specially converted shed in her garden
Imnotcheap £8 is incredibly cheap. Even doing from her own home. You are definitely getting a bargain there. Happy days
My partner cuts mine and our childrens hair she did train as a hairdresser years ago
£40 to £45 for a wash cut and blow dry. I used to colour it myself but I've left it the natural colour for years now.

doesn’t even cost that much at most £18 for long hair I think haven’t been for a while so prices may have gone up by £2 but we still get discount as whole family goes there and we know the guy
kitty88uk no, the prices being charged here are crazy. I’m lucky that a family member is a hair dresser, so I get a good rate. I get my hair done every month. No way would I pay £160 a month for hair

I’ve been getting mine done abroad for years. Normally, I pay £2-3 for a wash and cut. It’ll hurt if I had to start paying the prices they charge over here
It's been so long since I've been to a salon I think I'd pass out at the price. I have been cutting and colouring my hair since lockdown, and it's really nice, if I say so myself
I'm a male so not as much as the ladies. Last time I had it cut a month or so ago I paid £17
I've never been to the hairdressers before so this is pretty interesting, the prices differ quite a bit.
I knew someone about 10yrs ago paid £90-odd to remove black hair dye because she wanted her original colour back but they could only lighten it a shade. I thought it was ridiculously expensive but it's probably harder to remove than colour.
Yea that’s about the norm now but I’m lucky as my sister is a hairdresser and a qualified colour technician too
Always trimmed or not since sixteen when I had a Diana cut, thats over forty years ,wish could recall how much it cost then out of interest
