How Much Pocket Money Do Your Kids Get?
Ask a Question
How much pocket money do you give your kids?
It's said to have gone up by 11% recently. Mine started off at £1 when i was young, rising to £2 when I was around 10 and £5 as a teenager.
Start putting this money in a savings account because it will cost you thousands when they leave home and buy first flat or house
Pjran I think pocket money is good to teach the value of money and so they can save for things they really want etc
SamGoodship my comment was tongue in cheek. Of course children should have pocket money to teach them skills of saving and budgeting.
He doesn't get pocket money. We put money into an account for him and if he wants something we will get it for him. I never got pocket money when I was younger.
I get mine to chores for their money. They do get what they need and most of what they want regardless but I think It teaches a bit of a work ethic
My daughter gets a £5er a week for helping me out with cleaning she only does it twice a week lol
SamGoodship 11 lol but whatever she ask for 9 times out of 10 she gets anyway if it's reasonable
I think we should give our kids what we can afford. For some that will be nothing or very little. I think they benefit from learning to manage money at a young age. Am in favour of getting them a bank account and a debit card as early as possible. This also makes it easier to pay any pocket money or refund any costs. Teach them about saving. Encourage them to earn in any legitimate way they can and suits their personality. There is so much they can do and so much to be learned outside school.
My kids get 3 pound from their grandparents. They are saving it up to buy something that they like.
£5 a week for my 12 year old, but usually end up paying around £20 a week in odds. my girls get £40 a month each.
Glad to see most comments at a reasonable amount. There was a post on fb a while ago and some parents gave their kids silly amounts like £400 a month for doing nothing. A lot of kids have it far too easy and won’t know what will hit them once the bank of mum and dad stops and they have to actually work for a living. I’m a ft unpaid carer and I’m lucky if I get that a month from benefits
Our girl used to ask for a Doctor Who magazine, she didn't want pocket money, she graduated to National Geographical Magazine when she was 11.We offered her pocket money for chores as a teenager but she didn't want it so when she went out with friends we gave her £20 & she kept the change & we added to it next time she went out. We bought her a treat now & again if there was something she wanted & it wasn't extortionate.
Our girl now 24,a level headed young lady who budget's sensibly, planning & cooking her meals for when she's on placement at the local hospitals in Bradford ,working in Oxfam or studying Diagnostic Radiography at the University there..
I remember when we were kids it was like £1 a week. Don’t have kids yet so can’t really comment on this one.
