Policeman Who Shot & Killed Chris Kaba Cleared
In the News
The more I read about this case the more I am flabbergasted that the Police Officer was put through the ordeal of a murder trial.
A quote from the above article -
...."Previous convictions
Kaba has convictions dating back to when he was aged 13 for offences including stabbing with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, a knife-enabled gang assault when the victim was stabbed and had his arm broken, and two other knife offences.
In 2015, when he was 17, Kaba was convicted of affray and possession of an offensive weapon - a belt - over an incident in which a revolver-style handgun was recovered nearby, but the weapon wasn't linked to him and he was never charged in connection with it."...
He also allegedly shot somebody 2 days before his own death.
Never mind a Murder trial, the Officer involved should get a commendation for removing this lowlife from the face of the earth.
I'm glad he was cleared, guy in the car was a scum bag, cleared of murder in the past, firearms convictions, reason he was getting pulled over was because that car had been involved in a shooting the day before, he had every right to shoot him, using the car trying to ram them, no wonder nobody wants to be a cop if this how they are treated, his family playing the victim card, sickening , a normal,/innocent person would have pulled over immediately, cop deserves a medal
martinlufc5637 well he isn't the victim. The victims are the families of those he shot and the policeman who's life is ruined. I agree who wants to be a cop if this is how you get treated
Unfortunately the black community believe it’s a racist crime rather than look at Chris Kaba being a gang member etc.
Pjran exactly and it's not a race crime. Anything but. Was there failings. Yes the fact that over time youth services that were working on stopping gangs have been cut. Knife and gun crime is up because of this but it's not the polices fault
I'm glad he has been cleared of doing anything wrong. Its awful that his names has been released. His whole life is ruined and same for his family just because he was doing his job. The gang are after him. He only shot him because chris kaba was using his car as a weapon. Clearly chris kaba thought he was above the law
I'd be happy if the police shot more low life scum like this whatever their ethnicity. Also joyriders who endanger the lives of others should be shot in my opinion when in an area without pedestrians rather than keep chasing them into areas where there are people. I'm sick of these scum to be honest. This trial was a huge waste of resources and money which could have been spent elsewhere. Black males commit more crime than other ethnicities. They are always more likely to be in these situations if they are committing crime. You don't hear of people of oriental ethnicity constantly being stopped by the police because it would be pointless as that ethnicity tends to be responsible for much lower levels of crime and so the police aren't interested in them unless of course a crime has been reported with a oriental responsible for it. We need to get back to common sense rather than moronic idealism. The police will always be focused on the type of people that commit crime. It's going to be more focused on men and of those men its likely in many areas to be more focused on black men.

Some of the comments here and in the news show why it's necessary for judges to withhold some of the background details. On one side we have comments about racial profiling, when there wasn't any question about race afaik, and on the other about police being under too much scrutiny when anyone having such power should be held to account.
The trial was only looking at one particular question. His past behaviour etc. isn't relevant to whether the officer intended to kill him. The police didn't even know about his past at the time of the shooting. They knew that the car was 'linked' (ANPR?) to a past shooting and decided to stop. During the stop he tried to escape. Imo the officer should never have been accused of murder from what we have been told. That doesn't mean he made the right decision in shooting.
I would think the only question here was whether the officer was right to use lethal force to apprehend a suspect. In other words was it right to shoot the suspect if they try to escape in a car and ram it backwards/forwards putting other people at risk? Was there really no other way to apprehend other than shooting?
I'm not of the view that people's bad character/past crimes give the police carte blanche right to use any amount of force to get the job done. That just leads to more brutality and we saw what happened to Jean Charles de Menezes.
I agree it was traumatic for the officer involved and i definitely don’t think he is guilty of murder. However just because someone has been a criminal in the past doesn’t automatically mean they can’t be a victim.
It was interesting when his past came to light though, it does kind of put a stop to the police heavy handiness rhetoric in this case.
Some interesting points raised here on both sides of the debate.
It is true that the firearms officer didn't know of Chris Sabas' past when he shot him, but he was not being chased/followed by accident, I am pretty sure they had an idea who it was and what he had been linked to. And as such, lethal force was probably used to protect others.
