Pond or Pool? Why the New Celebrity Status Symbol is Upsetting the Neighbours

In the News

When is a pond not a pond , when it is a swimming pool

This is the latest fad for people with money , like celebrities , building a pond instead of a swimming pool, and then swimming in it

But the neighbours are not happy, saying the owners are pulling the wool over the local councils' eyes

The celebs claim they are building something more environmentally friendly, that supports plants and wildlife, while doing away with chemicals like chlorine that are potentially harmful

To be honest i cannot see what the neighbours problem is, they are not normally that close to the celebs property , so i can only assume the complaints are based on jealousy

I used to swim in our local river, where there was vegetation and trees close to the bank, but i would not do that now with so much pollution

So having your own pond serves two purposes, a clean, partly environmental pond that doubles up as a place to take a dip

If i could afford it i would go for this option , would you ?

I would sooner have someone with a pond next door than a swimming pool, though I suppose it depends on the size. Personally wouldn't like to swim in it as the wildlife builds up but would love watching the frogs etc.

None of our gardens are big enough for a swimming pool. I suppose you could get a pond that was big enough for one person to do a small lap of it. It wouldn't bother me as long as it didn't affect my house or garden.

MrsCraig I don't think the neighbours would be bothered if you had a small one installed either M

Ponds are needed and those whinging can shut up. Would rather see a pond or lake then a pool unused cos its a status thing

Personally I think people should mind their business ! A pond for wildlife would get my vote and if someone is brave enough to swim in it good for them 🤗

It does seem to be pettiness as what affect does it have on his neighbours. They wouldn’t have ever known if he hadn’t posted it on insta.

On top of that it said in the article he won his appeal to use it for recreational activities so doesn’t seem like there’s much they can do.

I would much rather a pond than a pool. Pools stink of chlorine which can be a quite severe irritant.

The pond looks lovely not a concrete tiled wall like a swimming pool. I suppose the neighbour complained because it wasn’t specifically listed as swimming.

Pond,Pool and a moat to keep the naysayers out lol.I love swimming outdoors.Nearest I get these days is a hose pipe and a quick turn around in the rain.

I’m not sure why the neighbour complained when it’s not her home and not effecting her. If it wasn’t on social media they wouldn’t have known so can’t be causing the neighbours any problems.

They should be complaining about his crap music instead of jumping into a pond 😂

SilverSurfer I bet hes got a good sound system in the house S, he could give his hits full pelt to the neighbours in revenge for complaining while enjoying a dip 😀

We used to have a swimming pool but due to our ‘lovely‘ weather it was closed more than open. We have a hot tub which is used all year round. Plus we do have a pond but I would never go in it, not even a toe!
