Pooch Planters
In the News
Ten pet dogs in the Sussex town of Lewes have been fitted with pouches with holes in for seeds to drop out of just before going for walkies in the Railway Land nature reserve. The aim is to restore woodland with over 23 species of plant. The organiser Helen Meade said, “When dogs run around sniffing and exploring they tend to get into nooks and crannies where humans don’t necessarily go.” I have been known to do a bit of urban gardening myself.Nothing quite like a purposed pooch though lol.
Go Pooches Go! I think this is a fantastic idea. Ok so some of the seed with inevitable be eaten but without the dogs doing their bit they wouldn't be any extra seed at all. Well done dogs and owners alike!
EmmaWright762 Word is that wolves used to disperse seed in the past because grass and wildflowers got caught up in their fur.
Some but hopefully not all.As a gardener I always plant no less than three of everything to cover base and increase the odds.
Those pouches could be worn by runners. Contact all the local clubs and I’m sure many would oblige.
I also do a spot of “urban gardening” myself. Whenever there is free seeds i apply for some then spread them in the rough land near where i live. I love to go back to see if they’ve grown
