What Do You Prefer Homemade?

Ask a Question

For me, I make an incredible fudge in the slow cooker! I also prefer my own home made yorkshire puddings. Do you have anything you think your version tastes better than the shop ones?

There are lots but I will just name two. It has to be home made Chips for me. Not that frozen rubbish. Same as Roast Potatoes. Home made Is better. I could go on & on with this.

Definitely Yorkshire puddings I agree with you there. I struggle to stand to cook. I taught all my kids how to cook properly- but they use having kids as an excuse to buy pancake mix, frozen chips etc. even white sauce in a jar. I saw someone at the supermarket put frozen mashed potato in their trolley- i didnt know such a thing existed lol

Homemade soups, Victoria sponges and flapjacks taste better than shop bought. There’s one exception that’s Heinz tomato soup.

Pjran I am in total agreement. I don’t like tomato’s and I’m not a fan of soup but Heinz tomato soup is just delicious ! There’s something about it that just works.

Pjran absolutely agree with you on the soups! We usually make a big batch of veggie soups when we’re got loads of stuff in the fridge that’s on the turn 😂 always better homemade

Steak & kidney pie - My pies actually have steak and kidney in!

I also make a mean cheesecake, adapted from a recipe I found online.

I made several rhubarb pies to freeze last week too.

I think most things are better homemade but you do need time to bake and a good freezer.

My mother's sunday roast tastes better than any I have had at a restaurant. Also her Apple Crumble is nicer than any shop bought Crumble.

Yeah fresh homemade pancakes are lovely. I find things like pre made Yorkshire pudding taste ok but you can taste all the added stuff that goes in them to make them last longer

Nearly everything but especially quiche. Shop ones are always sloppy with soggy bottoms.

Lynibis I agree I much prefer my own quiches I’ve made them a few times now (however that was before I had a little one😂) I find my quiches have much more flavour too than the shops and they’re not even that hard to make!

Steak pie. Even the one we get from the butcher hasn't got as much steak in it as the one we make ourselves. Also lasagne, shop bought ones are not great.

Homemade soups, pancakes, chips, lasagne, cottage pie and many more. You can’t beat homemade it’s far more healthy and nutritional. Plus once you buy certain stored cupboard items they last a while and can make several meals.

I agree Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes are best home made, I would add cole slaw to the list shop bought ends up very soggy

jms19 I don’t have a link I joined loads of FB groups years ago about slow cookers when they first had a boom in popularity. it’s so easy though it is just essentially condensed milk and chocolate! You do have to make sure you stir every now and then so it doesn’t stick but it’s so easy. Have a mooch about the internet there’s probably some lovely flavours you can add to them

We love homemade pizzas, cakes, to be honest there's a lot of things homemade that are good and you know exactly whats gone into them.

I think most things are better homemade, especially as you know what is in it plus can adapt it to your own taste as long as you have extra time but worth it.

LL81 I agree you know exactly what you put in it but won’t pretend with a busy life work, children etc I do use shop made stuff at times. I stand by my yorkshire puddings being better though I will never buy shop bought again!

My daughter makes some amazing ginger biscuits better than any brand and she has tried all the brands. Problem is they don’t last long in our home!

eyeballkerry I struggle with that problem too with any homemade cakes or biscuits 😂 I usually just make cakes and biscuits on special occasions now otherwise we'd be the sizes of houses!

HannahSunderlan My daughter used to sell cakes at my daughters pub. She then got orders for gypsy tarts and flavoured scones.

Meat pies. The shop ones never have enough filling in them. With homemade, you can add as much filling as you want.
