Do You Prefer Waiter Service or a Buffet When Dining Out?
Ask a Question
I go cruising and most of the time choose waiter service. I find it much more relaxing and don’t have to keep getting up and down from the table. Which do you prefer?
I never go out for a meal, due to ill health, but used to. I have always preferred a buffet, as I'm a fussy eater, and like to choose whatever I like. I can then put more of things I like to eat, without the ones I don't like on my plate.
Depends where I am. In hotels happy with buffet. In restaurants prefer waiter service. I’m partly going out so as not to have to bother with getting it all done and it’s a treat.
Neither waiter service nor buffet. In my experience both is as bad as each other. Buffet some of the food looked stale, reheated, burned or not available. Waiter service measly portions of food served.
jam45 Not sure where you are going to get measly portions, I always find they serve too much on a plate in a restaurant but I suppose it depends on the individuals appetite. I rarely have a starter and never a dessert.
I do like a buffet at a hotel as a lot of the time i want to have a look at all the food. When having a nice meal out it is enjoyable to have a waiter
Depends what mood I’m in and on previous experience then choose where I want to go No matter which I go to i always check their star rating before I go if it’s for the time at that particular place
I have never been a fan of buffets, they don't seem particularly hygienic to me as you don't know how many people have poked something or put their fingers in it, sneezed on it etc...
tumblespots This is what concerns me. I have seen people at buffets pick things up and then put them down again. If the buffet is the only choice at a hotel I make sure I get down early to the restaurant.
I prefer food cooked to order. Some buffet stuff looks like it’s been sitting for hours which puts me off
PayItForward It does look that way. I wait sometimes for a fresh batch to come out of the kitchen nothing worse than a warm dinner that is suppose to be hot.
On a cruise I go to the buffet for breakfast because I’m too late for the restaurant. Other meals I prefer service.
Pjran I may sometimes go to the buffet before breakfast after I have been to the gym just to get something light before my main breakfast. I sometimes get an iced bun in the morning and then have it with a cup of tea in the afternoon.
I prefer Buffet for breakfast and lunches, evening meal either really, thou I don't like Silver Service far to posh for me . A few years ago at a works training course we stayed in an hotel with Silver service and got told off by the head waiter, for taking the dish of vegetables from the waiter and passing it around the table.
Not been on a cruise, however have a holiday coming up, I hope it’s buffet so you choose from each station which is fresh, as is a Rui Hotel.
I love hotel breakfast buffet as I like to pick and mix all the different fruits and nuts which is important to me as I am a vegetarian. This I like most of all when on holiday in Spain when they use all sorts of different fruits.
Depends what type of place your at. But I love both. Aslong as I don’t have to cook. Not that we do it often at all
We work long hours so when partner & I go out for a meal we like to be waited on...
My partner's wary of Buffets because other people might have handled the food after going to the toilet & not washing their hands or might have sneezed over it as Tumblespots pointed out..
I much prefer to have my food cooked to order (nice and hot) than buffet food as I always find it lukewarm.
I prefer buffet as i like to go and pick what i want and how much i want but it's not often that i eat out usually just family birthdays etc.
