I sometimes think the experts aren't as expert as they think they are, the way things stand constitutionally; Charles will become King the instant his mother dies. The only thing that can stop him becoming king is if he predeceases his mother.

Whether he chooses to abdicate doesn't alter things, he would still have been King from the time of The Queen's death until his abdication (as happened with Edward the eighth).

You're right about the 'experts' in my opinion ..... but it does fill a space on a page I suppose.

Nothing would surprise me after the past year D, the world has been turned upside down and the royal family have had more controversy during this time than for many years

The Queen has come through the past few year with flying colours, I doubt anyone would even try to change the current line of succession during her lifetime. And even if it was attempted after she died (which I doubt) it would be too late - as said earlier Charles becomes king the moment she dies (unless he dies first).

I agree that most experts are actually experts at all and I would never trust anyone who said they were an expert. We are not monarchists at all in our house but Charles has been waiting an awfully long time to become king and would probably feel cheated if it didn't happen.

It could ruin his relationship with William if his son was allowed to overstep him. Imagine having to bow to your own son who had taken your place.

Lynibis Yep, it would stick in his throat a bit. He's been waiting his whole life to be king.

Lynibis Not quite the same thing, they were never the actual monarchs, but protocol dictated Queen Elizabeth the Queen's Mother and Queen Mary the Queen's Grandmother were required to curtsy to their daughter and grand daughter after King GeorgeVl died, supposedly Queen Mary insisted. Apparently the curtsies etc. are not towards the person but the institution.

Not sure that will happen.

I admire our Queen but my husband is not a royalist and thinks they get too much money from us. We have debated this subject many times never agreeing!

with what happened with the Princess Diana fiasco, there was a general consensus that William would be the next on throne, and Charles would be too old after his mother passes. I couldn’t care less, although I’d be annoyed to have to change my money again so soon after the recent updates
