What Are Some Eco-Friendly Solutions to Reduce Plastic Usage?

Ask a Question

I’ve recently tried out Smol and I like their washing pods, I’m yet to try the other products as I’ve been reading the reviews. I have started to become concerned with the amount of plastic I use. But even swapping to smol, it uses delivery service and I’d love to see more of these products shops, without a hefty price tag.

Has anyone found good products that actually work as well that can help. Not just in this area, the amount of times I grab a quick drink instead of reusing my own bottles. After researching I was blind to what actually harms our beautiful planet and I really want to start helping reduce my awful habits.

I think there is alot more on the market now that's environmentally conscious. You can get shampoo and conditioner in bars rather than plastic bottles, I replaced our shower gel with regular soap. Which also works out cheaper as it last much longer.

Midnightflower I always use soap as I find shower gels etc leave my skin feeling a bit slimy, as if the gel just won't rinse off. Don't like that feeling.

I'm not convinced by these environmentally optimised products often it just seems like clever marketing. To help the environment, grow your own veg, eat less meat, use the products you have for longer and consider secondhand items, don't travel as much, ride a bicycle and maybe have less kids or no kids.

Yes my thoughts too. That’s why I thought this would be a great topic of conversation to see other’s opinions. My grandparents are 93/95 and have just given up growing their own vegetables. They’re so healthy and have always just bought meat and essentials from the supermarket. It’s in my thoughts and I should ‘Make the time’. I’d benefit in the long run it’s just actually setting it all up that I’m nervous about.

There’s lots on the ever increasing market and you can use lots of everyday things for cleaning. Research vinegar and lemon, this will guide you to so many uses around the home and garden.

I've started using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda for cleaning. I was using shampoo bars then my psoriasis flared up and need to get back using them.

I agree vinegar and bicarbonate are great for cleaning. I’ve just started using it for certain things myself 🙌

I don't buy any type of environmentally products because they are overpriced and I like using products containing chemicals to do my cleaning. For example Fairy washing up liquid is a must have.

Shampoo and conditioner bars (as well as body wash bars) are a good way to cut out plastic, and they often last longer and so work out cheaper. I’ve used shampoo bars from Lush previously and they have lasted me ages, over 6 months I think, and I find they are really good quality.
