Do You Remember the King's Cross Fire ?
Ask a Question
I have just seen the breaking news " Huge blaze breaks out near London Tube station as 70 firefighters race to scene"
I reminded me of the The King's Cross fire, 1987, where 31 people died. It was caused when a matched was dropped on a wooden escalator. I seem to remember that one body was never identified.
It happened, just before I moved to London from Wales and I remember my being really worried about me going on the tubes.
Whilst it was a really sad day it made London Transport introduce a lot of safety measures.
Hopefully today's incident will be casualty free
beccatavender Yes sadly it often takes a crisis to trigger action I agree .I still prefer buses to tubes when given a choice.
When we lived in London, whilst we worked in the same building. I used the tube but my husband took the train into Liverpool Street and then a bus, it took him about half hour more than the tube, but he didn't like going underground MelissaLee1963
