Should We Reply To Poor Deals On Latestdeals?
Ask a Question
When I see poor deals on Latestdeals 99% of the time I ignore it but when we know there are better products for less or the same product for less or we know that product is poor should we go in and leave a comment stating so to inform other people? Is that rude, unacceptable, what are peoples views on leaving such negative comments in other peoples deals they have posted. You don't see it very often on Latestdeals. Can you link to another deal saying this is the better deal because... and then put a link? Generally Latestdeals is more polite but there is no vote down option for deals so you are only left with leaving a comment. Should we just leave it for the buyer to decide whether they want it or not and hope they make a well informed choice?
Hi BonzoBanana thank you for your chat topic. I think the way that you communicate it is key here. If you were to comment "rubbish this is cheaper in B&M what a rip off" then I think the poster would take offense but if you were to put thank you for this but do you know that you can get the same or very similar in B&M for 49p instead of £1?
You can also leave a link to the product in the comments too. In the guidelines we do state this -
Polite and Positive Discussion
We welcome polite and positive discussion. Having an opposing opinion is fine for as long as it is communicated in a constructive, polite and positive manner. Undue negative criticism and rudeness is not. We may review, edit and delete such content and your account may be limited or banned.
Thank you
Emma
I agree, emmabeckz, the tone of the comment is really important. I was disappointed that there were accusations of "lying" about deals the other day.
What if you end up posting replies to pretty much the same poster who keeps posting terrible deals all the time, all polite, but you keep pointing out issues with the product or how uncompetitive the price is. Won't it seem like you are stalking them on the site or something.
Also another question you have people like 'bestoffers' who post well over 3 deals a day so are these people staff pretending to be normal members as normal members only gets points for 3 deals a day and most would stop at 3 deals. Bestoffers also posts some of the worst deals in my experience so you wonder if that is purely to generate affiliate income for the site. Are there other members like that who are just operating for the financial benefits of the site. The site management seem very strongly against people having the vote down a deal option and this would obviously impact the sites own deal posters if they are focused on affiliate income rather than the quality of the deals. I could be wrong but I believe bestoffers for example is always posting deals from a shops that provides affiliate income to the site and I don't think I've seen an exception to this. LD Team members exclusively post deals with affiliate income links I feel.
Where as I would typically post deals from Parkers of Bolton and Planet X who are a little off the radar because they probably don't provide affiliate income or at least look like companies who wouldn't do so. Their deals aren't typically picked up by google for example and aren't pushed in your face on the internet like other online bicycle shops.
I guess my point is if there are people out there pretending to be normal members who are purely there to boost income to the site then I would just ignore their posts pretty much.
I guess my question is are all LD Team members clearly labelled as LD Team members on the site?
BonzoBanana All LD team members have a badge so you know who's who .
There are some members who have been with us for many years, in fact, since before Latest Deals was born and the website used to be called something else (Pedlar.co). We have continued to honour these select accounts with the ability to post more deals, as was the case at the time. However, point limits are the same for everyone.
We are working on the idea of putting price-comparison results within post descriptions automatically, so members can compare the price of the deal with other retailers. Hopefully this may help as if it's cheaper else where, you'd see it. If not, great
Generally I would point out it's cheaper or the same elsewhere, but most people don't seem to care particularly if it's an Amazon deal .
I tend not to bother with Amazon deals as they are often only up for such a short time its hardly worth it - but I will comment if something is not quite the deal it looks - or if there is a better deal I am aware of. As Emma says - its how you say it that's the important bit!
I sometimes comment about better prices elsewhere to help unsuspecting people from being fooled
I agree that the way you word it is key. I wouldn't take offence if I put up a deal and someone said " glad you feel you got a good deal but could try ??? Next time as I have noticed it cheaper on ????". I would also appreciate if the person put up the new link.
