Ring Doorbell - Would You Recommend?
Ask a Question
I’m thinking about getting a ring doorbell, but I never see them on sale. Does anyone know if they’re worth the price? Or if there’s something similar thats cheaper but decent quality?
Thanks
I've been looking at them myself but undecided also we still not going out that much right now
LeanneWard not got my myself but I’ve heard good things about them, although apparently they have a slight time lag in alerting you if there is movement. Our neighbours have one and none of the delivery drivers use it when they deliver to them! Perhaps it’s a secret Delivery Driver Rule
Really? That‘s no good then. I keep missing parcels when I’m in the garden or out. So I thought it would be good to tell them to leave in a safe place.
They’re quite pricey, so it’s no good if delivery drivers don’t use them ha.
LeanneWard please don’t take my word for it. Hopefully someone else on LD has one themselves.
Slightly off topic but I’ve noticed most delivery drivers these days are keen to take a photo of your calf and foot with the door open as proof of safe delivery. I try my best to pose seductively but I’m no foot model!
HappyTravels Haha, that made me laugh. They could have a foot fetish. I got a delivery the other day, I had 3 parcels. He made me wait, while he took picture of each parcel on the step individually.
My Amazon driver phoned my the other day to open door strange thing was he didn't knock and while I was out my OH was in LeanneWard
My son and my daughter both have ring doorbells. They think they are great. Even if the delivery delivery doesn’t push it you still get notified of movement in the garden or at the door and you can talk to them directly no matter where you are. It also records everything. I was in the back garden of my daughters house last week playing with my granddaughter and I heard my grandson talking to me. He was out with his dad at the time but had been watching me on the back garden camera.
Haha, I bet that scared you. I’ve got a ring indoor cam. Which is good. I got that one free when I upgraded. My dog was barking today when I was in the garden. So I told her to stop by talking to the camera ha. She was so confused ha. So I think thats what making me want a doorbell. Plus I’m getting my new front door fitted in the next couple of weeks. So I want a nice doorbell. But the price puts me off.
But think I will get one, thank you for your advice.
LeanneWard I nearly jumped out of my skin as I wasn’t expecting it. Talk about BB is watching you. Nothing private nowadays.
I had a Ring 2 Video doorbell as a Christmas present last Christmas as I had wanted one for a while.
Good points are the picture quality is excellent, battery lasts a long time and is charged via a USB when needed. Talk through is good and you can talk to the person at the door from wherever you are , assuming they wait a short while for you to answer them.
If someone rings the bell it alerts you but not instantly and you can talk to the person at the door . Motion detection is also quite slow coming through . Reading up on this it appears, the doorbell detects the motion starts recording, sends a signal to the router which then sends a signal to your phone, and it's then dependant how quickly you phone app actually starts up to alert you.
If you want to store footage of the video recordings on the Ring site it's approx. £22 per year subscription and this stores the footage up to a month.
Thankyou, I think I’m going to leave it. As I wanted it more to talk to who is at my door.
Im glad you explained, be a it saves me money lol. I’ve got a security camera that covers my garden and door.
So I’m going to just stick to a regular doorbell
I was confused by the wording of your post. I have a doorbell and people press it to make it ring! I assume from the comments that you mean a video doorbell -which I don't have so I can't help.
That’s the name of the door bell lol. (The brand is Ring) I hope that makes sense.
Sorry I could’ve worded it better. I think this is the first Chat topic I’ve made. So Im new to it.
But yeah it’s a video doorbell.
Sorry for the confusion.
We were given a ring doorbell as a Christmas present which came with a months free subscription. The giver did not realise we had to keep paying. We don’t pay as we do have cameras on the house and someone is always in. So for us it was a present that we did not need.
Thankyou for your advice, I didn’t know you had to keep paying either.
I will look into that x
This longer video showing the pros and cons (hidden costs etc) - is perhaps essential viewing for anyone contemplating purchasing.
I was going to get one but as I live in a flat I can’t because the camera looks to the opposite neighbour. They probably don’t mind. But other neighbours need to walk past so they will get annoyed.
Just take a good look so many ones out there now.
Thankyou, I will have a look around.
I‘ve put my ring indoor camera in my front window for now. While I’m the back garden, because I’m waiting on a delivery. It chimes on my phone when someone walks past. So it can get annoying.
So I’m thinking I may just stick with a normal doorbell lol.
LeanneWard Another thing to annoy you on the phone lol.
I would have one to see who’s at the door so I can avoid them lol I just don’t answer
rossruby1977 haha, that’s why I’m keeping my camera in the window so I can see who’s at the door
LeanneWard there’s somebody at the door. There’s somebody at the door... you probably haven’t a clue what I mean, but some others may lol. Grot bag !!! She’s green
rossruby1977 Yeah I remember grotbag the green witch lol. I call my niece grotbag when she’s being a pain haha.
That brought back some memories.
