Roadkill - a Cheap and Ethical Way to Eat Meat?

I’ve not tried it myself, nor do I live close to where I have access to much roadkill - but is it something you eat or would eat?
Foxes who commit hari kari cos they are half starved and mangy er no thanks.Deer caught in headlights or squashed hedgehogs perhaps.There are probably some folk who would accidentally on purpose bump into a cow or a sheep and then settle down for a nice roast.
PhilipMarc My warped sense of humour.Seriously though I live in an urban area .They keep building on the land and I guess the foxes are driven increasingly more into the city.They cry at nights like babies being murdered and run despairingly around the side streets desperately looking for food.It's not a huge leap of the imagination to imagine them deliberately running under a speeding car to escape the misery of things.
MelissaLee1 we've no foxes where I am. Theres none at all in the channel islands same as no badgers. Ive Only seen them twice in my life. Once one had been run over and was dying so called the rspca to come put it down. Was in Wandsworth London. The other it was in Weymouth and was running along a road. Was lovely to see
MelissaLee1 lol I guess if they’ve got access to them, why not? I suspect if everyone who eats meat actually had to go through the process of gutting them out, etc. we would all consume less
hspexy Unquestionably so.My dad was a butcher and I love meat but every so often I remember some of the horror stories I heard and have a turn away moment.I won't tell em here though lol.
I'm veggie so no thanks you're good. I guess it depends on how hungry you are. If you're flat broke and desperate I guess you'd eat it. If you've enough money to go to the shop most wouldn't. There's people out there that do.
Jerseydrew yes it’s perhaps something people have to resort to rather than choose, although if it’s considered ‘ethical’ then it could trend with the right crowd
The thought of it makes me feel queasy. How do you know how long it's been there, whether it's just on the turn, or just begun to be infested with minute roadside life...yuk!
Nope, not for me. The thing Is we only see things through supermarkets & butchers, so we don`t see beforehand. Many years ago I held a chicken so It could be killed & eaten. I didn`t eat chicken for months after that. But If you`re desperate anyone would do anything just to survive If you had no food or money.
jam45 Yes I agree. It Is not normal behaviour. I wouldn`t do It either.
I said what If you had no money to buy food. You would then, anyone would If you`re starving hungry. How can you buy eggs, potatoes & bread with no money? Not everyone has money. Some people barely survive. We are not all fortunate. A friend of mine has to work 2.5 weeks on min wage just to cover his rent. The rest Is utilities. He Is barely surviving. No such thing as desperate? Yes there Is.
Emerge11 You have forgotten to mention Foodbanks. I think the CAB, Social Services, Community Centres attached to various churches can help you out if you are desperate. In my area and the nearby one there is various charities/organisations giving away free cooked food with a drink after 5pm. I'm afraid to say 50% of the people queuing up looks like "freebie takers" and wouldn't turn down a cooked meal if it is free and they can save their "money" and do as they wish with it.
TheChimp I must have had the same dream! Living in the country pheasants/hares/rabbits always jumped in front of the car, we just turned the car around and picked them up and very tasty they were.
No, definitely not for me. I wouldn't even think about it, just the thought of it makes me 
I wouldn't eat road kill, it's not for me, I've seen American programmes were they go around looking for it
It is not somethingt that I would want to do although I know it is very popular in certain parts of America. I completely understand people doing it if money is really tight.
The topic's on this website just get more strange how do some people even think up topic's on roadkill. 
No I wouldn't eat road kill but there's some around here in the village that we live in that do they get up extra early to get road kill in
As a vegan I would not eat it but it's far more ethical than eating supermarket meat from a factory farm

jam45 yes but to what...standards are low ,hear of Frankenstein chicken for instance?
Never ever would I consider eating road kill my cat Theo got done by a car would you consider eating my / others cats and dogs ?
It's not for me - I would question the amount of germs and if it's infected with something serious.
