Has Royal Mail Improved in Your Area?

Ask a Question

Or more specifically, they got back to normal in your area?

I received three parcels today, but there's still a lot that has yet to be delivered.

This'll probably and frustratingly drag on through January 2023 because they're inundated with letters and parcels, and have been on strike for so long. 😔

Don't get me wrong, I stand with the employees, but we consumers are also being affected.

My mum posted two letters at the same time and one came a week later.

I have been waiting almost a month for an order from eBay and because of the strike I have no idea if it has been lost 🤷🏻‍♀️ I understand they want Better pay etc but why punish the customer 🤯 don’t they think we already pay enough for stamps and parcels without them being on strike people will just stop using the post and then they will complain that customers are not using the service it’s ridiculous, why should people’s Christmas parcels and cards etc be used as a bargaining tool

Not in my area. I am awaiting at least 6 letters and parcels. The Post Office strikers are being greedy and selfish. Fingers cross the PO management will turn them down.

maryklinge A sim card (RWG Mobile) I ordered on December 3rd arrived just today. This is shockingly bad that it takes so long.

I also received a ton of letters as well.

No. I posted a parcel - 1st class signed for and Christmas cards - 1st class (I had free stamps) on 2nd December. Parcel arrived 10th and a Christmas card 20th. Distance County Durham to Glos.

Likely a huge amount of redundancies next year as they have lost so much business as companies are forced to use other couriers and the company has now made a huge loss so is even less capable of increasing wages. Many ex-Royal Mail employees will likely end up at Evri or Yodel on reduced wages and conditions. Pretty much everyone is facing reduced living standards that's just the way it is but I know people live to their wages and suddenly they feel much, much poorer because of high inflation. I don't think striking is the answer though. Evri is German owned so its more money now going abroad as they benefit from these strikes.

BonzoBanana There are companies that solely use Royal Mail so it'll be interesting to see if they finally decide to break that cycle and use other postal companies out there.

The point in them using RM is that they were more reliable and trustworthy, but that has changed.

PhilipMarc I think I've seen two companies I buy from that have mentioned they aren't sending with Royal Mail but that could be temporary. For small letter post items they have a monopoly so I think that will continue but the majority of parcels won't fit through a letter box so its a much more competitive market for those. I'm sure Royal Mail have shrunk their business in recent months and they are unlikely to get that business back easily. My nearest post office recently had a sign outside saying 'no postal services' and I thought why even open? Just down the road there is a shop that takes Evri parcels and about a 2 minute walk around the corner there is a shop that takes yodel parcels. Luckily there is a nearby McColls store which is also a post office and they have wide opening times but its up a long hill and don't always fancy that walk and I try to walk as much as possible and not use the car.

I'm not waiting on anything else now in regards to Christmas. We haven't had any letters for a good while tho. We were all warned in advance the strike day dates & that they'd be large backlogs. I ordered most online items early on & have bought most of my presents this year in stores. The purpose of a strike is to disrupt. I think we were given sufficient warning to be prepared that some mail would be majorly delayed. Like most I think it'll have all been in vain tho & ultimately they'll have done more harm to there future jobs at RM.
