I thought this was pretty major consumer news but its not featured on the news section here. Instead we get loads of non-news about Aldi for some reason which just seems like advertising.
Anyway its a first for a convenience store to match Aldi for a lot of pricing making the local convenience store far more competitive. There are a lot of additional costs in running a convenience store so this is not without cost but for those who have a Sainsbury's Local it could be good news. My local convenience store is a Coop but it still saves me money as I can walk there so no petrol cost and they have good short life reductions if you go at the right time plus they have a lot of great special offers however still Sainsbury's Local are providing a wide range of much more competitively priced products.
My nearest is in Dorchester so not that many around here.
My mother in law works in a Sainsbury's convenience store, she brings us all the cheap stuff that's normally expensive, normally if they have a few days best before left
My local Sainsburys don't reduce like they used to. I think this is due to the store shoplifting. You can't pay for reduced items at self-service tills without a staff member scanning it for you.
Sugarbabe I don't know Sainsbury's make a profit, did you know that any Argos items that are sent to a Sainsbury's convenience stores and not collected by the buyer go to landfill... Most items are bought by staff at massively reduced prices, the rest goes in the bins
martinlufc5637 Hi, I wasn't awear that Argos items which were not collected were sent to landfill. It's good that the staff can buy these items at reduced prices. All the staff in my local are friendly, but most days they are short staffed. These two self service tills will need a member of staff to override anything with a reduced sticker, which takes time.
martinlufc5637 Amazon also do this plus if you look on youtube about people that do dumpster diving in the UK they find amazing stuff in the bins of retailers.
I think this is brilliant personally. We don't have a sainsburys local but we do have a little Tesco and you can't get any of the value or sometimes even Tesco own brands in there and I'm sure some of the prices of the own brand stuff is higher than at 'big Tesco' anyway.
