Should We Still Have School Uniform?

Ask a Question

Uniform vs. Non-Uniform Schools 🎒🔄

Do you believe school uniforms should be mandatory given the cost, or should schools consider a more relaxed dress code to ease financial pressure on families?

Yes there should be uniform in schools but it shouldn't be as expensive as it is and not everything needs to have the school logo on either

SamGoodship for one if anyone wears the same then no kids would be getting bullied over what clothes they wear and it should be no branded shoes too

Yes there should still be school uniform. Our sons school is fairly relaxed. You don't need to have the logo on the jumper but it should be the school colour. Same with the polo's, they should be white but don't need to have the logo. They can wear black or grey trousers and dark coloured shoes. I got our sons uniform from the school bank. We have a local shop that provides second hand uniform for free. You can give a monetary donation if you can afford to. His school also had a pop up shop and you could take what you needed for free. It saved me a fortune on his uniform. Once he grows out of it I will donate it back to the school bank.

Yes,I think that school uniform should be mandatory but parents should not be forced to shop at a certain shop as is sometimes the case and this is where it becomes too expensive. School uniform is important as it stops the children competing with each other over who has the latest gear and the most 'in' brand.

I definitely think we should still have uniform but as others have said it shouldn't have to bare the logo of the school/particular branding as that is what drives up the cost for people and its ridiculous. Kids can be cruel though so i think a school uniform is good for stopping any kind of bullying for ones fashion choices.

I cannot believe that schools don't sell sewn on logos for parents to buy but I imagine it's a lucrative business to sell clothes with logos. 2 sweatshirts in supermarkets are around £4 and with logo each cost £14. Nice margin

SebK84 Yes I do think there is a good profit margin for the embroidered items.

Yes there should be a uniform, everyone dressed the same uniform doesn't have to be expensive the likes of Aldi, Tesco and Asda all sell cheap uniforms.

The local comp near me gives year 7 pupils a school tie when they start. Can't see why other schools can't do the same.

It should be relaxed and comfortable. Strict dress codes can now be left in the dark ages

Yes I think uniforms are a bit of a leveller. Most supermarkets have an affordable range of the basics.

Pjran Sadly it's when it comes to colours the supermarkets don't have (At our old school none of the supermarkets had the 'right' shade of yellow as well as any with the school logo on. And of course when they get to high school it all costs more.

If you don't have a uniform then you get a lot of competition on who wears what and many children can feel excluded just because they can't afford the 'in' stuff.

Yes. But it should cost parents a leg and an arm. I don’t know how people with three or four kids afford it

It's the cost. The list they gave us for starting secondary is unreal. It was about £300 for a child. Items brought and not even used or only used for 6 weeks like gum sheilds

Yes. It stops the ‘haves and have nots’. A lot of districts will actually give you help toward the school uniform. Which I was grateful of as when all three of my kids were at high school the policy suddenly changed that blazers could only be purchased from a specialist uniform shop with the badges already on. We were no longer allowed to sew our badges on. The blazers averaged at about £50 each ! I asked the school for help and discovered that every school district has a certain budget to help pupils/parents who are struggling.

Yes I agree to a schoold uniform but just choose the basic colours, not having to buy all the kit that has the school logos as that's when it becomes so expensive for the parents.

I don't see the point of school uniforms. When I started my second high school many years ago there didn't have a uniform it was great everybody was really relaxed and comfortable in what there were wearing. Then brought in the uniform and I hated it. Wearing a tie was ridiculous I never wore it propley always had it low down. The white shirt you could see my bra through it which made me feel uncomfortable. My trainers had white bits on because back then women's trainers went up to a size 7 and I was a size 8 so had to wear men's. I couldn't find completely black trainers and didn't want to wear men's shoes plus was too expensive. I often ended up getting sent home suspended because of this. I then lost all interest in school. I left before doing my GCSEs. There said it was to prepare you for work as you will need a uniform but that's not the case any more. Most jobs don't need a uniform if you do it's quite casual. You certainly don't have women wearing ties. So im against uniforms. I think kids should be comfortable as school is stressful enough. Let them express there personality through there clothes.
