Should schools bring back the "nit" nurse?

I think they should as the problem I'm seeing is the school can’t even get the to let other parents know there’s an infestation

We regularly check our kids, but i have found that schools lack informing all parents of an outback in a class.

Leannexxx i agree it should be down to parents but when I was in school there some right scruffy parents who didnt care that their child/children were in dirty clothes or had nits. If that the case than a nit nurse should be brought in for those specific reasons.

Chelsea0121 I agree with you but it's not the kids fault they will feel embarrassed because of them so parents don't worry if there kids are dirty but where as me if they had a little bit of dirt on them I tell them to get charged but that's me

Definitely Not, it should be down to the parents to make sure that their children have clean hair, we simply cannot have children stigmatised with the nit nurse as it is totally demoralising and can lead to bullying, I remember the nit nurse when I was at school and when someone got called to go and see her they would come back stinking of prioderm which was cruel in my book.

I agree with Pato, that nit nurses and embarrassing children should be left in the past. I also think schools have got enough to deal wit, parents on this issue should take responsibility and if there a issue with particular children, maybe the school can help provide treatments and advice discretly for families that maybe can't afford it?

Midnightflower sorry but it's not if they can afford it any child under 16 can get free treatment but you have to go into the chemist with a nit taped to some paper before they give you the stuff

Leannexxx that's good to know, I wasn't aware that was available so maybe there are other parents who also don't know. I was just thinking along the lines of families struggling and there budget not being able to afford it.

Midnightflower yeah I know you use to be able to get it from the doctor's but it's all changed about 6 years ago

If any one is interested a good non chemical treatment is tea tree and rosemary aromatherapy oils diluted 1:10 in water and sprayed onto hair and combed through. All dead and visible on pillow next morning.

Nits like clean and dirty hair. It's the blood they're after but a couple of doses of tea tree normally does the trick.

Makes my head itch thinking about it. It funny that most workplaces do not have a problem with nits. The only logical explanation is head teachers must sprinkle them on children that do not take the pound in on none uniform day.

You have only to observe the kids of today kissing and cuddling when greeting each other to understand how it spreads among children. Not so much with adults in workplace.

LynibisI Would expect to see a spike post our office party. I understand the theory of how they would get spread around in schools, just not where the outbreak starts. Head Teachers would say post return of summer holidays, but they like to blame everything on the parents. My theory is as above, the clue is in the name head teacher, head Lice. ( To clarify, I am being silly, I like to be silly when the sun shines).

Howmuch 😂 lol, I don't blame you, Sun is shining here today too! As you may know from my posts I work with kids in close proximity so live in dread of the wee beasties.

no, I would not like the idea as it would embarrass any child I think parents should do this themselves in the privacy of the child's own home.

I think it would be good to have but letters sent out to parents like an appointment systems if they want their child enrolled. Or, perhaps even a letter out to the parents stressing how important it is for them to keep on top of it themselves at home?

I think they should. It doesn’t matter if the nit nurse doesn’t spot all cases - but the thought of your child being told they have nits will actually make the parents check themselves. I knew plenty of parents who didn’t bother checking their own kids hair and I hate to say it but the worse offenders at my kids junior school were the mums who thought they were a little better than other mothers so of course - their children couldn’t ever possibly get head lice !
