Shop Owner Gets a $1,000,000 Share of the Powerball Lottery
In the News
If you think winning the euromillions lottery is a big deal try getting your head around winning the poweball lottery in America
One person from Los Angeles won a staggering 1.08 billion dollars last wednesday
I cannot begin to work out the odds of winning this , not even with the euromillions
But another big surprise was that the owner of the shop and his family also benefitted from the win, they received $1,000,000, 0.5 per cent of the total just for selling the ticket
Even that is life changing money for most people

Even after the Tax/IRS cut, he's well off. Congrats.
Hopefully he's more careful with such a large sum than this couple who withdrew their cash to hand it to their daughter who ended up scamming them.
I once heard about parents who were robbed of €20k (Approx. £17k / $22k) by their adoptive son, but a biological daughter? That's even worse.
Society, man... It's gone downhill.
PhilipMarc What a sorry story P, they not only lost all the money the daughter stole but had to pay the IRS tax on the stolen money , crazy
As you can see from the text below even the shop owners here in the UK can benefit from both selling tickets and certain prizes...
National Lottery retailers earn 5% commission for each draw-based game sold and 6% on each Scratchcard sold – as well as 1% on certain prizes paid out in-store. On average, National Lottery retailers earned around £6,000 in commission per store last year and, since 1994, they’ve earned over £7.7 billion in total sales commission.

tumblespots I know I am a natural cynic but these stories and others like them are just proof of how the little people pay to make/keep the big people rich.
Lynibis 'The rich get richer and the poor get poorer' The gap between the two just gets wider all the time...
tumblespots I bet the shop owner in the USA thought it was his birthday and christmas present coming all in one go T
I wonder what the 1% on certain prizes means ?
Knowing our laws here it would exclude big wins like this one
I wasn’t aware that shop owners get some reward, that’s interesting. I wonder what the reasoning behind it is
jms19 I never knew about the percentage payment of a win either J , they have different laws there, possibly here to depending on the terms and conditions
But i did know the shop sellers here get a percentage of the sales , otherwise they would get nothing for selling lottery tickets
