Has Anyone Had a Positive Experience Travelling Alone?

Ask a Question

Has anyone ever holidayed abroad on their own. My dad was 86 in January and he got all 6 of his to his home that evening (1 was on zoom call) but rest were there. We were told to bring no presents and instead mum and dad gave all 6 of us envelopes with cheque. I decided to use mine on holiday and as woman of 56 took my 1st holiday abroad alone. I went to Portugal, to Albufeira. Honestly best thing I’ve ever done. Grateful to google maps keeping me right but I’d such an amazing time away. Highly recommend it to anyone. I’m someone who doesn’t like going anywhere on my own. I even phone my grandson to go with me to shop at top of my street for bread or milk. I spent an amazing wk there and was checking up holidays to go back later in yr.

If I can do it anyone can

Yes I have gone Solo alone on Holiday. I did not book anything apart from the Flight. I went to Last Vegas. I landed and got a Taxi and searched around Hotels for the best deals and Vacancies. I stayed In the Northern part which Is the old part. It was brilliant. I have done things like this for a long time. You make your own Company anyways and you will always meet someone/s along the way. Would I do It again? Yes, definitely. You always wonder who you are going to expect to sit next to you on your Flight. I was lucky to sit next to someone who was Friendly. On my return home, I was seated next to a Lady who just loved the British Accent so she got me reading extracts from a Book. Yes like you said: Anyone can do It. Glad you enjoyed your time In Portugal. What a wonderful gift too you received.

Wow ur brave, not quite sure I’m that brave although reading that is making me think. I’m definitely thinking of my next holiday later in year. Sounds like Las Vegas was an amazing holiday too. Might check out deals for there

My friend is going to Turkey on her own for a week in the summer. I've never been on holiday by myself, don't think I would want to. I would want someone to talk to, I would get lonely. I'm fine doing things on my own, but wouldn't want to holiday alone. Not that I would as my husband and son would be going with me.

I went on a Nile riverboat cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. Within hours you become friendly with other solo travellers and never lack for company and conversation. There were 11 of us, but only 3/4 guys and we ate, drank, were entertained and saw the sights together. I have many happy memories of that holiday.

It's a very freeing experience, you don't have to take into account what anyone else does or does not want to do.

I've done a couple of solo trips as well. One thing I've found over the last couple of years is the number of women doing solo trips. There's so many of us. I talk to as many as possible to get a feel of which places make you feel safe and which don't (so far Do: Iceland & Prague, Doesn't: Egypt) which helps plan the next adventures. I've met so many wonderful people. On my last trip I sat next to a youngish couple who kept offering me sweets and snacks and checking I was ok. It made me chuckle as I'm normally the one doing that to others. What a wonderful gift from your parents.

I am sorry to disappoint you regarding solo travellers. Many years ago I went on a package holiday with solo travellers included and some of them were a nuisance. They were hanging around the hotel foyer for company or sitting next to a group of us because they didn't like being alone (both male and female solo travellers). We all remained polite to all of them for the entire week's holiday.

I've never been abroad on my own but every august I take 3-4 days just for me and go to London on my own. I don't have anything on mind except theatre in the evening. Been to a few bits of London so far
