Sooty Glove Puppet to Be Sold at Auction
In the News
'It's a puppet!' as Brian Conley used to say on his comedy shows
But this one, sooty, is going to auction and is looking for a new home
On the other hand , please excuse the pun, It is not the original sooty, the original 1950's used by Harry Corbet set a world record auction price when it sold for £14,500
This one , from the 1980's is expected to sell for a modest £400-£600, although the bidding could go higher
I feel sorry for sweep , he doesn't even get a mention , and as for soo, sootys' girlfriend , she is also out of the running, if she could
Maybe she is too high maintenance
Here's an interesting fact about sooty
How did Sooty get his name?
The glove puppet was first called Teddy and used to entertain his son, then soon became part of his magic act. The chimney soot on his nose and ears were added to enhance his character, of course leading to the name 'Sooty'
I had a little bear when I was younger called Sooty. It always sat on my bed with an elephant toy called Dumbo. But somehow, don’t know when Sooty got thrown in the bin by my mum. I still have Dumbo.
eyeballkerry If only we knew then what we know now E, those puppets could be worth a fortune at auction, just like the Steiff ones
telmel Mine wasn’t a puppet but I probably did get rid of things which could be worth a bit by now. I have a collection of 4 Kodak kolorkins which are worth something but can’t part with them yet.
eyeballkerry I didnt know what they were E, i had to google it, so they are like TY bears but made by Kodak ?
I would certainly hang onto them with only commercial printing existing now , they can be worth a lot in the future
