If Space Travel Was Open to Everyone Would You Do It??

Ask a Question

Having a conversation with my husband about space (I know, it's random). He said he'd love to go if it was open to everyone (I don't know if I should be offended by that statement). I on the other hand wouldn't want to (l've seen way too many movies where it doesn't go so well for those on the spaceship).

If it was open to everyone would you dare to go??

No, not for me. I believe also that we are not alone. I mean, how could we be. There Is definitely In my opinion life elsewhere. More advanced than us too. I like Sci Fi Movies. I remember - Flight of the navigator to name just one from way back.

Not for me ,quite happy to see and learn of such things on the TV or internet, no desire to travel into space , think it would drive me crazy through boredom , imagine being stuck in a space shuttle or on a space station with nowhere to go.

No way, no thank you. I am bad enough flying in an aeroplane. I went to the moon on space mountain in Disneyland Paris and absolutely hated it!

eyeballkerry omg I went on space mountain when I was young on California Disneyland. It was horrendous. I was shaking and on the verge of tears when I finally got off.😫

Lynibis That sounds a worse experience than mine. My family persuaded me to go on but I just shut my eyes the whole time until we got to the ‘moon’, looked at it then shut my eyes again until it was all over.

eyeballkerry my son is now 48 and I remember we had his 5th birthday out there. He and I were in the front carriage, older son and his dad behind. What made it worse was that I didn't really know what the ride was as they pranked me and stood in front of all the warning signs. It just had one of those pull back bars and I spent the whole ride with my arm across my son as I feared he would fall out!

Lynibis As soon as the bars go down you know you’re in trouble! One of the worse rides I went on was a chairlift ride at Pleasurewood Hills. I have attached a photo. My children were so small at the time I thought they would slip through. I had one and my husband the other. We hung onto them for dear life. Image

eyeballkerry gosh, they do look rather dodgey. I don't know if our space mountain rides were exactly same but ours were in pitch blackness. I wouldn't go on any roller coaster let alone one in the dark had I realised.

Lynibis I did space mountain when i went in the 80's L , i loved it , what was worse for me was the roller coaster ride i went on at terra mitica in Benidorm , Spain in 2015 , that i was persuaded to go on it

It is made of wood and really old , and despite liking roller coaster rides, this gave me the worse backache ever, it threw you around so much and you hit every part of your body on the wooden frame

I believe it is not working anymore and closed for major work, which they haven't got the funds to spend on it , thank goodness 😵‍💫

Coming back from a trip yesterday 3 times motorcyclists weaved and overtook dangerously on busy roads and it seemed like a little space between the bike and the approaching vehicle. Some people like to live dangerously it seems for the excitement of it. In one instance if the rider had been hit by the approaching HGV surely he would have been instantly killed and that was the closest encounter I saw. Just needs a minor issue on the bike to slow it down and then bang. I feel the same about space travel in that it will always be incredibly dangerous with many stray particles travelling at incredible speeds. Then you are taking the risk with increased radiation and greater risks of cancer etc. I'm more interested in what others discover in space than going myself. I feel like virtual reality will become a much better experience in the future as computers and displays can generate much more realistic VR simulations. Nowadays entertainment is so much better than when I was a kid, video games are amazing and movies and TV you can stream when you want to. This will only get better with time.

The reality is space travel is only going to be to the moon, mars or perhaps the moons of other planets in our solar system and may not be that interesting for tourists. There is no realistic way of people travelling to other stars especially for commercial trips. However sending high speed probes to other star systems and then creating VR experiences of what they discover could be me amazing and something that might be possible in the later period of this century or more likely the next century. However even if these probes manage an incredible 10th of the speed of light that is still 40 years to the next star system and another 4 years for the data to be sent back. I suspect we will discover more with much more advanced telescopes perhaps designed by AI and likely the probes that go to other star systems will be AI designed too.

When Voyager left the gravitational envelope of our Sol system it encountered the void between star systems and it was worse than they imagined with regard the conditions out there, I think there was a greater amount of stray particles if I am remembering rightly.

No. The ones up there now (actual astronauts not tourists) might be stuck there for 8 months when only 8 days were planned!! I’m wondering how they get round the supplies problem and actually managing to sort the actual issue out. I don’t know what the issue is but that’s enough to put me off already. Mind you, I don’t fancy a cruise liner either, I just feel trapped. 😂

What a coincidence this being posted

I watched the new movie ' Fly me to the moon' last night about the landing on the moon with

Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum

A really good film with romantic overtones

I wont give too much away , but the film implied what many conspiracy theorists suggested, that the moon landing could have been faked

In the film they built the moon area where the astronauts were supposed to have landed as they didnt know if the mission would be successful or not , and wanted to use this to film to the world

They did not want the likes of Russia seeing them fail as you can imagine the glee there would have been if they did

If it went wrong, the public would not know as they would be watching the staged version

But things went wrong with the camera, and a black cat, and they ended up filming the actual landing

Who is to say this didn't actually happen , having a backup plan incase of failure ?

It didn't say what would have happened when the astronauts had to return though if things had gone wrong though

The film gave food for thought 🤔
