How Much Do You Spend on a Picnic?

Ask a Question

How much does it cost you to make a picnic?

I think it should be cheap bits like sandwiches, sausage rolls, bit of salad maybe and some cakes or nibbles we already have in. But I've been seeing some really fancy bits in the supermarkets like chicken satay sticks, stuffed cherry peppers (£3.65 at Asda) and olive pots.

I suppose it's like everything, you buy what you can afford, but I would be cheaper end as there is so much waste when you try to do too much.

I hate insects buzzing round so I go for things that aren't 'sloppy' or leave sticky plates.

I think a sandwich, bag of crisps and those individually wrapped cakes that will deter insects, is enough. So, would probably not spend much more than a lunch at home.

Pop and juice will be sticky so sealable water bottles!

Don't really have Picnics anymore as it's not cheap to take your own these days if we go out for the day we pick up food wherever . I've even given up taking my packed lunches to work as by the time you buy all the ingredients i think it's just as cheap to buy a meal deal in Boots or Greggs.

I buy Tesco lunch meal deals @£3.40 a head plus cakes. It’s nice to have a huge selection of sandwiches and wraps.

I used to do the best picnics when my children were younger. Blowing my own trumpet. I remember other relations who had joined us on the beach, couldn’t believe what was coming out of my picnic bag.

Keep it basic, sandwiches or rolls, cheese and sausage rolls. At least you are getting what you like and enjoy. The supermarkets are all about making you spend money so they dream up fancy stuff. Ok if you want to spend.

I keep a home made quiche in freezer ready to put in fridge night before a picnic. Then just sandwiches crisps and few treats. Usually have a McDonald's for tea on days out

Yes I agree, we buy Gregg's sausage rolls from Iceland and make sandwiches or pasta at home to take with us. Crisp, biscuits and some fruit and we're sorted.

A picnic is like a sandwich, pointless if it's empty or mean. I like lots of picky bits on a picnic.

Chicken drummers, scotch eggs, Grosvenor pie, a couple of nice cheeses (Pont L'Eveque and St Aignan maybe), Italian cherry tomatoes, German smoked sausage, crusty rolls, handmade plain salted crisps, strawberries, cream and a crisp white sauvignon blanc, please. I'm a man of simple tastes.

You can only eat so much so I would spend under £10 for a filling home made 'main course' then some snacks and drinks 😃

I guess the more people you have at the picnic the better a spread can be put on, for a cheaper price.

I’m happy with a sandwich, crisps and some dessert but would that even be considered a picnic 🤔

Very little actually. The main character is not the food but friends and family members or simply the view. So it should be at most 10.

I always make sandwiches to take with us, some crisps and drinks, maybe a few sausage rolls, only take what I know we will eat as don't like waste.

Depends on what you're aiming for. I try and make what I can for a picnic. Don't got the pre made stuff if I can make it myself
