Spider Bites Man in the Throat after Swallowing It

In the News

It wasn't a man who swallowed a fly in this case but a spider while sleeping with his mouth open

Unfortunately it bit him on the inside of his throat, which then swelled until he could not breathe

Fortunately after medical treatment he was ok

I can imagine he was traumatised by this, i know i would be and probably wear a mask to bed after this

They do say we will swallow a Spider/s through our sleep in our lifetime. If I see a Spider in my bedroom I won’t rest until I found him because he could be crawling over you while you sleep. I was trying to catch a fly in my living room a few weeks ago but couldn’t so I sucked him up in my Vacuum instead. Bullseye. With Spiders I bung them outside when caught.

I nearly didn’t bother reading this but glad I have now. My husband always says spiders can’t harm you so leave them alone!

I know when there is a fly in the bedroom at night as my cat often ends up chasing it and runs repeatedly over me while he is pursuing it. Not sure what he does about spiders though. Last night he slept by my side as it was fresh bedding. So if I roll over towards him he scratches me up a bit to get me to go back the other way. Hopefully at least he is keeping insects out of my mouth.

Sounds like a nightmare situation but this must be extremely rare cause I’ve not heard of it happening before

jms19 Earwigs are another supposedly old wives tale J , but one did crawl into my ear once on holiday, luckily not too far to quickly extract it

And i have had a fly that flew up one of my nostrils, that took more effort to get out with quite a few blows into a handkerchief
