Spider Season

Ask a Question

What is everyone doing to keep spiders at bay over the next few months?? I’ve encountered a few beasts in the last few days and I can’t stand them 🙈

So far nothing too big inside but daughter has seen a couple outside when cleaning the gutters, her choice to do that when we were out. We have five cats now so may use them to get any. They caught a dragonfly yesterday and we had to save it, but spiders they can do what they like with them.

eyeballkerry we maybe need to get another 3 cats. We only have two and they are useless at helping with these spiders lol

PayItForward We have two adult cats and three kittens. The kittens are very interested in anything moving from a leaf to a squirrel. I had a cat previously who would kill birds, play with mice and once did have a squirrel in its mouth. Not sure if the cat had killed it or just found it.

eyeballkerry..We had hardly any Mousie incidents throughout this year then last week when I watered my plants before dusk I spotted something with paws in the air out of the corner of my eye, I ran in screaming, following day partner returned from his overnight shift & removed a dead RAT, I shuddered watching from our window..

On Saturday our little torti had a Mousie which crawled away.

This Wednesday after saying goodbye to my daughter before I went to work I was about to step outside when I spotted a dead Mousie right outside my back door, I let out the most bloody curdling scream & had to leave by our front door.

Yesterday after having our hair cut my daughter & I were letting our hairdresser Sarah out when daughter spotted our little Torti with a Mousie so had to let Sarah out the front door as she doesn't like Mousies either!!

Don't know about September being Spider Season, it's become Mousie Month for us, give us a Spider anytime!

janphoenix51 We have five cats, two older ones and three kittens. The kittens are turning into good mousers already. Like you we have had a few. My son did manage to save one and through it back into the adjoining field. My husband absolutely hates them, it’s his worse fear along with rats.

Found an insect when I was going to take a shower this morning, so just sprayed it with water and killed it. It might have been inoffensive, but it grossed me and who knows if it'd try to bite me.

PhilipMarc I rolled over on a spider in bed when I was 18. Didnt even know there was one in bed with me until I woke it the morning and it was squashed onto my leg. A few hours later I had to go to the doctor as my leg went up like a balloon. Rushed to hospital and out on an IV. I was told I might lose my leg - thankfully I didn’t. But I didn’t walk right for about 2 months. I still have the scar on my leg from it after the massive hole from infection

MelissaLee1 I’m terrified of them. Luckily we don’t tend to get too many flies in - the cats are good at getting the flies, and I don’t mind swatting them myself. But I can’t deal with the spiders

My mum encountered a large one the other night, came across her living room, she tried to get it with a spider catcher but it got away and ran under her free standing fridge freezer. She left it there and went to bed. No way could I have gone to bed!

eyeballkerry nope! I had my husband lift our bed the other night because one ran underneath I knew I wouldn’t sleep knowing it was in the room. I hoovered it and got him to take the hoover outside and empty it. He doesn’t like to kill them, but I couldn’t lift it and couldn’t hold the bed

PayItForward I don’t particularly like killing them but if they lived outside, where they belong I would not have an issue with them. I’m the same with the vacuum, obviously it’s dead when it’s been sucked up but I still want it emptied.

Just catch them and let them out. Had a wolf spider scurry past my foot the other day and it was huge…but they’re more afraid of us than we are of them. They’re great at keeping the other pesky bugs at bay

hspexy my husband will lift them out. For smaller ones I can get them with the spider catcher and put them out. But I don’t go near the big ones. I scream and he knows he’s to come and get it

PayItForward lol the big ones can still make me shudder if I see them looking at me with all their eyes…but I mostly find them fascinating and appreciate them from afar

We have had a couple of small spiders in today and they just get put back out, a friend of mine swears by using conkers to ward them off.

luckily I'm not at all bothered by spiders, just pick them up and release them outside . For those that are bothered you can get a spider catcher that will scoop up the spider and allow you to release it outside without harming it
