Any Big Spiders Yet?
Ask a Question
It’s that time of year when the spiders come visiting. Has anyone had any big ones yet? If so do you like them or hate them?
They are incredibly brave creatures. Going toe to toe with giant wasps. I find spiders quite friendly at least they don't chase me around the garden until I scream like a little girl. Bleedin Habanero sky raisins.
I'm not a fan at all, although I would never kill one.
I once had one in the house that was so large we heard it walking before we saw it
Yes.Saw my first spider of the year tonight actually and it was a big one.Scared the crap out of me.
My husband was cutting back one of our climbing clematis and he saw a huge spider! He said the body size was at least 5p. I took some convincing that it is an outdoor spider and will keep the windows closed for a while.
Last week I froze for at least 5 minutes in front of the biggest spider I've ever seen. I managed to stick a pint glass over it (it just about fit) for my husband to get rid of it when he woke up. Even he was freaked out!
We had a huge one by the door in our house.. i had to rescue my partner from it. He hates them!!
I hovered up a giant one yesterday morning. It was just sitting there on my wall. I absolutely hate them and get rid as soon as I see them!
Yes two that ran across the living room floor during the evening and I thank my lucky stars that I have good eyesight and that I have a speedy husband who always removes them! He said he found a huge one in the hallway too the other day I hate spider season - I could never be single
I don’t mind spiders but everyone else in the house does, so I am the nominated spider catcher! I always try to re home them outdoors rather than killing them though.
I once found a huge spider in a bunch of grapes, and as I moved the grapes, a sac burst and all these baby spiders came swarming out
I managed to get the package in to a large mixing bowl and cover it with clingfilm. I phoned Tesco and they sent environmental health and an arachnid specialist around in about an hour! All very dramatic!
TheChimp they did actually - they sent me a big hamper of fruit for my ‘inconvenience!’
gerrykelly25 I hope that it was from their Tesco Finest range and not the wonky stuff
laraquinn my husband would agree with you! He hates spiders. The only thing that worried me was that if the babies escaped and were poisonous. I guarded the bowl until environmental health arrived to relieve me of it!
Noooo, I don’t mind spiders. They don’t bother me when they’re in the house. But that would freak me out..
I'm not a big fan of spiders, but I just let them get on with their business.
I don't mind money spiders though because they're little.
I have had some yes and I am petrified of even tiny ones. Even while typing this I have the image in the thread out of view as they terrify me
Not yet, touch wood. There again, there's been more movement from my cat at night, so maybe she's eaten some!
There was a huge one on the wall in my living room yesterday, plus another one ran across the floor last night. My dog is terrified of them (and moths, bees, flies, ants...you name it, if it’s an insect or even resembles an insect he’s off ) and I don’t like them much either.
Tonight I have another nice and big but only 5 legs went to check door and this beaut was there
Zoomed in one not for faint hearted
Sanitation1234 husband has come home I told him a spider is on loose he now won't to go bed until found
I hadn't seen a spider with anything other than eight legs, so did a bit of searching - it looks as if that one has been in some trouble where it has escaped with its life - but not all its legs,
davidstockport I never either but this is 3rd big one in a month with only 5 or 6 legs I thought it was the cat playing with them
My daughter said "spider is my friend, mommy". So I couldn't evict it.. Not my friends though
No. I’ve seen small ones, and lots of webs out in the garden. But no big spiders visiting yet...
Yes, there is loads around. Found some outside, in my room and even in my bed. I do not like spiders they are massive.
There are loads of spider catchers on Amazon which are perfect for capturing those large buggers. Getting the Dyson or the Henry out is a bit of a hassle and I do not have the confidence to go up to a big spider with a glass and paper. As an arachnophobe, a spider catcher is a life saver for me.
Just capture it and put it out the window. Job done.
I've always been the designated catcher but I'm no longer as willing as I was after seeing all the cases of spiders in fruit and international parcels. I also bought a spider repellent spray for my car wing mirrors - so much better than wiping away those sticky webs.
We keep seeing lots of webs
Surprisingly looks like we have 2 spiders living in wing mirror
We've had loads. They're generally always in the bathroom, usually in or around the bath and generally found at about 3am. My daughter leaves frantic little notes on the bathroom door for us to find in the morning 'spider dude in bath'
Ants, spiders and cockroaches are a big nope. If I see them in our house, they're getting flattened.
not so many in the house yet thankfully. some big ones in previous years though. I am socially distancing from spiders this year as I am in the vulnerable age band so my wife has to deal with them just in case...
I saw a couple of huge Augmented Reality spiders earlier. The Serpentine Gallery currently has a digital exhibition of Tomás Saraceno's 'Webs of Life'. When you download an app and go to an area close to the gallery you can see a large spider moving around when you look at your phone. There are two spiders to choose from

We don't tend to get many spiders in the house, we get other things- wasps, ladybirds, moths. I don't like spiders, but I can deal with them, catch them and put them outside.
