Christmas Dinner Serving Problems
Ask a Question
Cooking Christmas dinner isn’t the problem but plating up is. There will be 8 of us. Any tips for it not to go cold while plating? Only small galley kitchen with one electric oven. So tight for space. Is it better to plate veg or buffet serve?
Could you not get one of those heat things that keeps the food hot with the containers and maybe plug in in a spare room or something?
KateGriff169 I don’t know, any recommendations or where I could get something like that?
JLouM I've just been trying to look but I don't know what they're called exactly to get the correct thing
JLouM got it, buffet server. Maybe something like this, cook in advance and then keeps the food hot
KateGriff169 these are a great item to have to keep foods hot especially when the weather now has gotten so much colder!
If there’s lots of you it’s easier to serve in big dishes. Then people will take what they like. I have a huge white turkey plate and load the meat and veg on that.
People have mentioned the hot plate serving option already. You could always give it a quick blast in microwave. Plus gravy always hot so should also help.
I also serve the food in dishes and put on the table so people can help themselves when I have a large amount of people. Don’t forget to warm up the plates before serving.
We go to my dads for a 2nd Xmas. They have a hostess and it's a buffet service. Except we keep the potatoes from my older brother til everyone has had them as he ears them all. Works for us. There's more then 8
Christmas Day there are just 3 of us, so I tend to plate serve.
Boxing Day however there will be 7, so I plate up the meat, but put everything else in bowls and dishes.
Also gets rid of the annoyance of people leaving stuff they didn't want on their plate, because if they do you ask them "why did you take it then?"
Maybe help yourself from the pans? We do this sometimes as it saves some washing up also.
I put it all on the table for people to help themselves. I will keep an eye on what people have put on their plates - if the pigs in blankets have gone round the table then they go back in the oven for a bit. Same with everything else. Kids (all in their 30’s) sussed out where any ‘missing’ food was and started swapping it themselves. Its all about training the kids lol. With ‘nice and polite’ guest I obviously do all the swapping x
Warm up your plates. Keep food in the pots and covered. And if it does get cold, stick in the microwave.
