Hungry Student Eats work of Art worth $120,000 , a Banana Duct Taped to a Wall
Other
We all complain about the price of fruit at the supermarket, but would you pay $120,000 for a banana taped to a wall ?
Someone did at the Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2019. the piece was aptly named the 'Comedian'
Since then the 'work of art' has been on display in various locations including at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, South Korea
Unfortunately one student was feeling a bit peckish one day and decided to remove it from display and eat it
Not all was lost though, he returned the skin and retaped it back
The artist didn't seem to mind , they replace the banana every three days anyway and i think some found it rather a peeling
He doesn't seem to have much luck as his other famous piece of artwork , a solid 18-carat-gold toilet worth about $6 million was stolen from Bleinheim Palace in England and never found
Thank goodness nobody was on the throne at the time , that's all i can say
People really do have more money than sense sometimes. I'm all for abstract art but that's ridiculous.
Midnightflower I think all this type of 'modern' art started with Tracey Emin in 1998 with 'My bed' M
It was just an unmade bed surrounded by random objects , just like you might find after getting up after a heavy session drinking
But it sold at auction at Christie’s in July 2014 for £2,546,500, madness !!
telmel it baffles me how it can be called art. I need to stick some strawberrys to some wood and sell it for a few million
Midnightflower It might be worth a try M, if it works with a banana who knows with strawberries ?
telmel - These so called art galleries makes me sick. Some of the so called artist deliberately invent unusual or unique art to draw attention to themselves and make themselves a lot of money.
I don’t call that art, I call it attention seeking. You can call anything art these days, even a load of rubbish. Probably literally!
These are the social influencers of the art world J , look how ridiculous some influencers are , yet they are coining it in
Maybe they should pin a bottle of prime drink to the wall, i doubt if that would be there that long though before someone drank or stole it
Valuing a piece of art at $120,000 yet you can replace it for the cost of a banana (about 15p) every three days!!!
