FAQs
- What about Lidl, Co-Op, Savers, Poundland etc.?
We don't track these places at present. We may do in future.
- What products do you track?
We don't want to say exactly what products for a variety of reasons, but it is a common basket of goods that form the 20 most bought products. We find the cheapest available option for the same size.
- Iceland seems wrong, it's not that expensive
Iceland is a unique supermarket because it doesn't sell much of it's own brand goods. Basic items, such as those we tend to collect data on, tend to be more expensive at Iceland. Iceland does sell other items, such as large packs of frozen meat, at cheaper prices than other supermarkets - however we don't necessarily track all those product prices for the purposes of this.

Well iceland is expensive & not alot of shopping is done they dont have loyalty program either as compared to tesco morrioson or asda for instore shoppers
Very interesting, but it would be enhanced by the inclusion of Lidl. The graph is very small and difficult to read as well. Thanks for doing this for the community.
This is very interesting its good to know what supermarket are trying to help the customers by lowering items thanks for taking the time to do this graph to help everyone
I do my main shop in Lidl and then top ups in Aldi or Asda. I love the Lidl app as it helps us save extra money. Whilst Asda has a rewards app it takes me ages to build anything on it as you have to spend a lot to get rewarded.
We shop all over, I use the Latest Deals Comparison Website before going shopping that way I'm aware if an item is cheaper...
20 commonly bought items is pretty meaningless. It would be so much better as 20 random selected items and if a supermarket doesn't stock one item due to limited range that should be highlighted. Constantly changing the items would mean the supermarket couldn't manipulate their pricing so easily.
I use most supermarkets at different times often because I have a voucher and I see each supermarket has items that are cheaper or higher quality than others.
Ultimately if you have to go to multiple supermarkets to get all you need you have to factor in petrol and time.
I think the cheapest way to supermarket shop is to keep moving between them at different times.
I don't see Waitrose as competitive at all nowadays and sadly I think Iceland has gone the same way. Iceland just has too many branded goods its needs more cheaper Iceland branded goods for tinned and packet goods.
I’m surprised Iceland is so expensive! It used to be cheaper. Looks like Aldi are best value but I can’t get to one easily here. We shop at Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda mostly depending on which products are on offer at the time.
