FAQs

What about Lidl, Co-Op, Savers, Poundland etc.?

We don't track these places at present. We may do in future.

What products do you track?

We don't want to say exactly what products for a variety of reasons, but it is a common basket of goods that form the 20 most bought products. We find the cheapest available option for the same size.

Iceland seems wrong, it's not that expensive

Iceland is a unique supermarket because it doesn't sell much of it's own brand goods. Basic items, such as those we tend to collect data on, tend to be more expensive at Iceland. Iceland does sell other items, such as large packs of frozen meat, at cheaper prices than other supermarkets - however we don't necessarily track all those product prices for the purposes of this.

How can I compare prices myself?

This is a great comparison. I normally get different things from different shops - I have a mental note of all the costs lol

We use all different supermarkets but our main one is Iceland but we're definitely looking to go elsewhere as find they're getting really expensive

xKJG93 I find Iceland expensive now, we changed to farm foods who sell same or similar products and have saved money compared to Iceland

Surely you should include what your actually comparing otherwise this is meaningless

Mango4 It is a meaningless comparison, I rarely spend more than £10 in Aldi as it has a limited range and many of the products are below the quality I will accept. It is also the only supermarket without a loyalty scheme so there is no additional savings. It is also the most profitable supermarket with the highest margin. Personally I am completely disloyal and keep changing which supermarket I use as different vouchers and offers come in. Overall my preference is Tesco though as their fruit and veg quality is great and they have a huge range with very decent pricing. I was amazed recently when I went into Lidls and the banana's were actually a reasonable size rather than the small ones they normally sell.

If you look at the news section you will see it full of so called news stories about Aldi, this is a site with a very strong bias towards Aldi for some reason, I mean really it should be called 'Latestdeals by Aldi' or words to that effect. It is mad to accept such a site's viewpoint on supermarket pricing when we can't see the products being compared and its meaningless anyway if that supermarket has a limited range of goods so you are forced to do another shop elsewhere that sells a wider range of goods which costs more petrol having to do more car trips.
