More Teacher Strikes in July before Summer Holidays .

In the News

National Education Union have announced more strikes on July 5th and 7th .Wondering what peoples thoughts on it and are the teachers right or are you on the side of the government ? I know it isn't going to help the children but the wage rises teachers have received over the years compared to the MP's pay and expenses its little wonder why they are striking .

The cheeky so and so - the teachers. Deliberately striking during term time as usual. I am hoping their absents is taken out of their holiday wages. You cannot compare teachers' salary with MP's salary. Two different type of occupations.

There is no point in striking in holiday time as no one would notice. When they are on strike they do not get paid. Same as the doctors etc.

jam45 they don’t get paid when they are on strike. Maybe you’re a member of a rich union that can afford to help you.

jam45 I hope you are being sarcastic here. Teachers and support staff work hard. I'm in a profession where I get hit, kicked bitten. Have things thrown at me, spat at, sworn at on a daily basis. I have to listen to children tell me the most horrendous stuff that happens away from school or other kids have done in the playground when staff are dealing with other kids. All this while trying to stop violent kids hurting their peers. Stop children from running off site. This is on top of trying to teach kids basics like reading and writing.

Jerseydrew My daughter used to work in a local day nursery with kids from few months old up to school age but moved this year to a nursery in a primary school where her daughter has just almost finished primary 1 (means she’s off when her daughters off etc) and the story she’s told me of the kids and way some behave as u say kicking, biting, hitting out etc and the work they do that parents don’t actually see they have to behind scenes. I think they deserve a pay rise but thankfully no more teacher strikes here in Northern Ireland as schools are finished next wk till September

Whilst strikes obviously inconvenience everyone (i know that’s the point) i tend to think if that many people feel a certain type of way they must have a point.

If they deserve more money fair enough, but so do all the support staff, catering staff , caretakers and transport staff , that all contribute to the running of a school .

With regards to strike action, whether it be teachers, doctors , rail workers or anyone else , I believe that their salaries and benefits should be openly published, so that we can all see whether or not what they are asking for is justified , especially where public money is being spent

They are striking for our children and I support them. Schools need more help. I do get that it can be inconvenient but the end result is to help out children.

I support the teachers, the whole education system is failing our children and it needs change. The government have constantly underfunded vital services whilst wasting billions. Whatever happened to all that unusable PPE?

Fine me if I go on Holiday in term time with my children but ok for them strike in term time. In my opinion it is that bottom of the wage scale that needs to increase before the middle.

Well, people have complained they can’t take their kids out early to start their holidays before the prices are jacked up…I think it’s the perfect excuse to do just that!

When teachers stop all the PC woke crap they are ramming down the kids throats maybe I will feel able to support them. They are required to teach facts in order for kids, as adults, make their way in the world and job market. They do not need to be indoctrinated by those who wish to push their ideas, values and lifestyles on others. Just watch a few YouTube lectures on this subject and you will not want to send your kids to school!
