Tesco to Open First London Pub Ahead of King Charles Coronation

In the News

I think this first is a brilliant idea from one of the major supermarkets, a pop up pub for the coronation

They are not only promising cheaper drinks and food and some specialities just for this occasion but are also donating £250,000 from the proceeds to The Prince’s Trust

As they say 'Every little helps '

It’s all very well and can see it could be popular for the one day but think about all the real pubs struggling at the moment. It seems Tesco is just promoting themself, at the least the money is going to charity.

eyeballkerry I think they had to offer money to the trust just for that reason E, but at least it is only a one off so not taking too much from the other pubs

Wow that's cool. Only think is, while it's great chain pubs trnd to lose the character of non chain. The chain pubs end up looking the same but in this day and age a chain often has the money to be able to lower prices etc to keep it going.

I agree J, lets hope we don't lose too many traditional pubs , those that have been going hundreds of years for example , the government should be protecting these with heritage status

I wonder what their prices will be after all they intend donating a quarter of a million pounds. Two days of trading making £250 k profit sounds like a huge mark up to me. I doubt if any pubs make that much in just two days.

Pjran I think they are 'banking' on good publicity P , which is probably worth more to them than the two days profits

This should boost their overall sales over the year

Tesco last year reported Profit before tax (£m) 1,000.00 so they don’t really to steal publicans’ business.
