The Things Children Say!

Other

Kids speak as they find especially when they have not yet learned to filter their words.

Yesterday a driver and i took a young girl home and whilst chatting we got drawn into the 'how old are you' game. I told her to guess and after some pondering she said '100?' and the driver 69. Well, i am 69, almost 70, and the driver is 53, but of course we laughed it off.

Some comments can be a little more hurtful although not intentionally. One driver has a very badly scarred face from adolescent acne and was asked by a child in all innocence, 'have you been in a fire?'

What things have you heard from children that have tickled or saddened you?

Lynibis I had a customer say congratulations to me as he was leaving. I told him bluntly that I wasn’t pregnant and that I was just fat. He laughed and said yeah right. To which I responded no sir I am just fat as I can’t have kids and I have have IBS which makes me bloat. I never seen anyone leave so fast. Not even an apology. My work colleagues were so shocked at my bluntness lol

TracyStorrie sounds like he was a big kid lol. I am often amazed by how many men have beer bellies and look as if they are expecting twins, I work with two, but a woman must be pregnant if she has a belly!

Lynibis That's horrendous from a colleague... well anyone!

I'd don't know if I'd be able to not say anything, I'd have to say 'It must be nice not caring what people think of your abrupt rudeness' and then walk away.

Or 'It's unfortent some people have to be so nasty.'

Or even... 'I could probably loose weight IF I WANTED TO, shame you can't change being you.'

I can't help it, I like to think I'm fairly nice and considerate person, but you shouldn't mention the way someone looks, whether it is about them being larger or even 'too' skinny. A compliment is alright that someone looks beautiful or lovely. But even then sadly that can upset people, making them think they don't usually.

I imagine the young girl must have had some experience of the damage fire can do to make such a comment?!

tumblespots this particular driver does a school run and I think it was a young boy, in fact it is all boys on his run I believe. They do tend to egg each other on.

We have another lady driver who has alopecia and is often asked why she has no hair. Her stock reply is because I didn't eat my vegetables when I was a child.😂 She has a great sense of humour.

My son (about 7 at the time) was having a sleepover with my parents and my Mum was showing him how to make vegtable soup when out of the blue he said "Nan have you ever has sex"? she nearly spat her soup out and quickly changed the subject.

One of my oldest memories was when I was very young and I was on holiday in London with my parents. We were walking in the town and a midget passed us. I pointed at him and said 'Look! There's a little man!' Mum told me to be quiet.

I must have been about 5 at the time, but it's stuck with me ever since.

That was a long long time ago.

TheChimp well it wasn't rude was it 😂 and I expect he was used to it. I think parents must often get more embarrassed than the recipient of the comment.

Lynibis I didn't know any different at the time and couldn't understand what I'd done wrong. I'd never seen a small person before.

Once on a bus ride my daughter asked the old lady sitting next to us why her face doesn't fit her anymore..... It's now a funny story but at the time I was so embarrassed

when my son was small we moved to where we still live from a small country village. There were very few coloured people in the village. A few months after moving in a neighbours husband came down to stay and my son says to me "Look mum a chocolate man" Luckily only I heard but I did explain to said neighbour in case she heard him say it in future. He thought it funny

Deansmum we taught our sons about different races and colours and they knew it was rude to point out skin colour etc. However, one day on a bus someone doing something caught his eye and tugging at my arm he said 'see that man over there who isn't white......'. In his child's mind it was the only way he could politely point out the one person of a different skin colour on the whole bus.

My one said the other day that there was only two genders. So I sat him down for the day and made him watch the shows on Disney+, later he understood there was actually 88 trillion genders! Kids hey!

I wear a headscarf, I was on my way to work when a woman with two kids walked passed. I let them cross first, the kid turned around and pointed at me. And said, 'that's the bad guy, mummy'. I don't think I've ever felt so shocked and hurt by a comment, as much as this.

SalmaS that is shocking, but do remember children are the products of their parents and he has got that from home. I hope that his mother corrected him, it is very wrong that you must suffer that. I work with two women of your culture and they are the sweetest, kindest ladies you could wish to meet.

Lynibis that is so true, children pick up things from home. The woman didn't correct it, she just looked and laughed it off.

SalmaS She was probably very embarrassed, I would have been, and didn't know how to deal with it. That is no excuse, she should have corrected him in your hearing.
