Has anyone here got OCD. How did you find out and what steps did you take. I feel like I have OCD and have been looking into it. Everything aligns with OCD. Not sure what steps to take, have spoken to my GP previously but unfortunately i received no help.
In all honesty I feel so embarrassed to even speak to someone about it as usually people will be like 'everyone has it , it's not anything big'.
But I feel like it's starting to have an impact on my day to day life. I was hoping to get any advice on here. Especially from some one who has OCD and the help they received.
I wasn't sure what to advise but maybe start here as there are several ways to get support for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), including: NHS
You can refer yourself to an NHS talking therapies service or see a GP who can refer you to one. If you have mild OCD, you may be recommended a short course of therapy. For more severe OCD, you may need a longer course of therapy and medication. Hope this may be of some help.
Do l have OCD?? I don't know, l don't give myself that label/title nor have l ever seen a doctor but refer to myself as a neat freak... l cannot leave anything in the sink overnight, it has to be washed, dried and put away straight after use, this applies to cooking and cleaning as l go, this applies to everything in my life, my wardrobe and drawers are 'clothes' colour coordinated, my kitchen cupboard content labels are all facing front in military precision, my garden grass edge is cut with scissors and not a fallen leaf is never picked up straight away, l don't have ornaments or knick knacks anywhere in my home, it's like a show home rather than a lived in home, l cannot abide untidy ness in any form, l will check three or four times that all windows and doors are locked, l sweep the pavement and curb not just outside my home but the neighbours either side daily too, the list of things are endless, most of these things frustrate/annoy me about myself but lve always thought it's just me.

Pinkspirit ocd is debilitating, you're just fussy now if your things not being perfect played on your mind all day and night, and stopped you enjoying life unless you checked on them constantly, then that's ocd. Or believing if you don't have things just so, that horrible things will happen, that's ocd
Jinky67 mine is mostly numbers so. If I touch something I'd have to wash that hand 3 times with soap and then was both my hands together another 3 times. I have to check my plugs before bed to make sure nothing is plugged in. And I'll check it at least 3 times. Even though I'm sure nothing is plugged in. I can't move on until I check again and again. Same with my workouts I have to do a certain extra on top of the amount I wanted to do. If I don't, my mind thinks that something bad will happen. And I won't be at peace till I have done them
My wife has OCD, doctors are completely useless and offer no help, learned to live with it, difficult at times when she's cleaning at 2am ect... We are in turkey at the moment and she's been really bad with it
I don’t have OCD myself but my neighbour has and they attend a local support group so it might be worth looking online etc to see if there is anything available. I’m sorry your doctor hasn’t been much help but hopefully there is someone or something that can help . Take care of yourself
I don't but had a client who did. She got a GP referral to get NHS group support. I hope you're able to persevere in getting support - if it's having an impact on you, you deserve support.
I don’t have it but knew someone who did. I think it’s the mindset that something ‘bad’ will happen if a certain ritual isn’t carried out. The reality is it probably won’t. It needs bravery to risk not doing it gradually and see how things are. I used to be a severe worrier though and that was just as distressing. I now know most things didn’t happen and worrying was a complete waste of time. It’s not easy though and if you can get help do so. Maybe look at Mind charity online, they might have information.
I like to see and have stuff clean and organized, but wouldn't say I get obsessed with it.
The stuff I resell online I always clean it so the next owner gets it in good shape while I possibly bought it all dirty (sometimes it's hard to tell from photos).
My dear old mum had OCD but back in the late 70’s early 80’s it wasn’t recognised, she got treated for schizophrenia! How far off the mark were the Dr’s back then constantly washing her hands and face , it was horrible and needs more compassion then what it gets for family members if it gets out of control! I have it over dirt,have to wash hands all the time,never had a normal life,never sought help as it's likely treatment in the past was making you wallow in pig muck or something to get over it! I am nowhere near as bad as was when young thank goodness but it's hard to mix with normal people who don't think everything is dirty...there are some online websites about OCD, and forums etc perhaps you would find them useful?

Sarahvwomble thank you for sharing this. I will have a look. I've seen some pages on Instagram but they're all just saying what they experience but not how they deal with it. It takes alot in you. I feel like as I get older it gets worse
SalmaS so sorry it's getting worse...might be worth trying another GP , expect there are several now in almost all practice..I know how off-putting it is to be brushed aside. I wonder if there are any good books on the subject?
