Do You Offer Drinks to Recycling and Rubbish Collectors and Builders?

Ask a Question

So whenever I see cans of drinks on offer i always buy them to stock up for days like today, really really hot. I use my stash to give drinks to the recycling and rubbish collectors and also for the builders that are working on my home.

One of the recycling crew made a comment earlier that they don’t often get offered drinks on their rounds and the builders responded they don’t get offered drinks because most people feel that as they are paying the builders they should bring their own drinks.

I honestly thought that giving drinks out like this was the norm so my question is do you give drink out to these people or not?

No judgement either way i am just interested.

I would always offer one and see if they accept. Especially if hot there is always water. You want them to work well. Sometimes if cold weather they have a tea depending on length of job. Sometimes they just prefer to have their own food/drink in their van on a break, so just depends really.

I have always offered drinks to anyone working at my home, I also prepare cold drinks of squash for the bin men on a Friday if it's really hot and they always appreciate it.

I offered to make a drink for the Amazon delivery driver on Sunday as it was soo hot,he told me that he had plenty of water so didn't need a drink but thanked me..

When we had a builder & his son in law who worked with him doing our house I used to make drinks as soon as they arrived,Bacon & Mushroom or Bacon & Egg Sandwiches, drinks & get them Buns or Biscuits ..

Used to let them have whatever music they wanted on Alexa,we treated them like friends & they did the same, the older one Phil in his 60's was battling Cancer but still turned up for work, only odd occasion he didn't but other builder Paul was always there.

Phil once brought his posh car because he had an hospital appointment & he dropped me off at work before going.Phil gave us loads of books on Sheffield Wednesday as my other half & daughter were fans just as he & Paul were, him & Paul became good friends, unfortunately he died a few months after retiring,we went & paid our respects to him,Paul was choked up poor fella..

Paul went on to work for a Fencing Company in Chesterfield..

Two nicer fellas you couldn't wish to meet, down to earth with a great sense of humour!

janphoenix51- I wish I had builders like yours. All of the builders I have used has ripped me off for the same job - my roof. I am so pleased to read you both liked each other. No food coming from me though.

Whenever I have a tradesman round the first thing they get offered is tea or coffee, I have even given lunch with an all day job. I Don't buy or drink any cans of drink, I just have water, one tea, one coffee per day.

Aww that's really kind of you and i'm sure it makes them happy.

I've never given any drinks to the rubbish and recycling collector's .. it's never crossed my mind to be honest. We do offer to anyone working in the house or garden.

I always offer anyone coming in our home or working on our home if they'd like a drink or anything. They often decline but I do say to let me know if they change their minds.

I paid a company the other week to dispose of a large amount of waste from our garden (I've used them before and they are licensed) I gave them both a drink.

I don't think I've ever offered the bin workers or post people, but then I'm either not around or they are usually in such a hurry, they also aren't usually around at the same time every time, so wouldn't know when to expect them.

We always offer drinks to anyone who is working on the house.

Recently, an Amazon driver asked if I had a glass so he could drink out of the outside tap. I gave him a bottle of water from the fridge which he seemed quite happy with

If I have any tradesmen working on my home, I supply drinks and snacks. Our binmen come very early, 7ish, so I don’t see them.

I don't give drinks to the refuge collectors, as they arrive at 7am but always offer refreshments to people working on my home.

I always offered our builders drinks and bacon sarnies and they were gratefully received.

A few years ago when we had a heatwave our Tesco delivery driver looked like he was going to pass out from the heat, so I offered him a drink and he was so grateful for it!

I always offer any delivery drivers a drink in the hot weather. The postman/bin men when I see them. They have even had ice lollies or ice pops when I have had them in and they are grateful.
