Is it time to rethink engagement rings?
Justin Bieber just gave Hailey a second, larger diamond—even though they're already married. Does this show they're just an expensive tradition without real meaning?

Just because Justin Bieber is an idiot by trying to show off to his wife doesn't mean that the rest of us don't hold with tradition. The giving of an engagement ring is a gesture to show an 'intention to marry' and this shouldn't be diminished by Justin's actions. In the world I live in it means a great deal to both parties.
tumblespots I think it's individual really, I have seen a trend of people not wearing wedding rings at all and some instead getting tattoed for it

Auntielettie I'd never heard of people replacing an engagement ring until this headline. Buying what you can afford at the time and then upgrading when you are better off makes sense.
Each to their own. I personally would’ve liked to get tattoos instead but that’s quite a permanent statement to make
Obviously his gift is not to confirm an engagement it’s just jewellery to wear. My friend now wears a beautiful ring which cost a small fortune that her husband could never have afforded while at uni. She waited 20 years.
If you want to buy your partner an engagement ring then buy one. An engagement ring is a symbol of the intention to marry. I lost the diamond from my original engagement ring so my husband bought me a new ring, with a better diamond than the original. If someone wants to buy another diamond ring for their partner then let them.
My wife's has her first
