Do You Tip Your Bin Men and Window Cleaner at Christmas??

Over the years I have built up a good relationship with the local bin men and window cleaner. I normally buy them a box of sweets at Christmas. Recently there was a discussion about how much people tip them. Is this a thing? I thought buying them sweets was enough of a gesture…
Nope for one don't have a window cleaner and I wouldn't tip the bin men every week they miss my bin the amount of emails I send it's stupid and yet they never get emptied
Leannexxx I don’t tip every week. Normally at Christmas I buy a tub of sweets for them. I was shocked to hear people giving them £50
Don't have a window cleaner but l tip the bin men ten pound and give cans of cold drinks in the summer.
Pinkspirit that’s a nice idea. Especially during the summer when it’s hot. I might leave drinks out for them as that’s a kind thing to do
No I've never tipped them, they are getting paid good money to start with, bin men refuse to take extra black bin liners, and window cleaner turns up when he feels like it

I mean it’s nice for people to give chocolates if they want..
We don't have a window cleaner but always give our postie some money, not thought about the bin men but suppose there's also the milkman. I don't have papers delivered but my Mum used to always buy sweets for the paper girls and boys.
TiaTia i never thought about the postie as we never see them. They are forever delivering other houses mail to us, which we then have to deliver to the correct address - so they have never been on my radar for getting a tub of sweets at Christmas lol
PayItForward Our postie is a really nice man so happy to offer a little gesture of thanks to him but he's all we do at Christmas.
TiaTia well this is it. If you have built a nice rapport with someone that provides a service, it’s nice to do something for them if you are able to.
The problem is where does it all end ?
Do you tip the fast food delivery guy , the amazon parcel delivery person , besides the postie, window cleaner, gardener , if you have one, etc etc , and our council tax is already high enough as it is to be tipping the refuge collectors
I think we all panic to pay our bills , and some already are stressed out when birthdays , easter and christmas are coming around , some don't have enough left for tipping
telmel this is it. I felt the window cleaner and hun men getting a tub of sweets was a nice gesture as I’ve known them for many years now. When I heard people have been giving £50 tips I thought it’s well for you, but I won’t be doing that
PayItForward Yes, the sweets are a nice gesture if you know them that well , but money , i am not sure they are allowed to take that anyway

telmel oh wow. So they probably shouldn’t be accepting it in the first place! I doubt they will ever be found out unless someone reports it
Really don't understand all this tipping culture we're trying to get in to the UK, leave that to the Americans
My Council Tax pays for the refuse collectors so NO I dont tip them at Christmas. We pay enough of the silly Tax already which I dread.
Don’t have window cleaner, don’t tip the bin men as most weeks just left wherever or chucked. Some times don’t done. However do tip our postman, known as a Christmas box.
I don't. They shouldn't have an expectation of being tipped so I think any gesture is a kind gesture!
