Tipping Taxi Drivers?
Ask a Question
Do you tip taxi drivers?
I was out with some friends recently when it came up that a couple of them tip the taxi or uber driver and it never occurred to me!
Yes. We tip taxi drivers. Especially when working bank holidays etc. People think taxi drivers earn a lot, when in reality they don’t
I think it would depend on my wage tbh, as it is i’m on the lower end of the scale so don’t feel i should tip. If i had a high paying job i would tip though.
The owner of a taxi company told me that 10 percent is a suggested rate to tip if you wish but no obligation. He has told all his drivers not to expect a tip every time and appreciate it if you get one, it’s a bonus. The world is changing and I think tips will soon be a thing of the past.
It's different with uber I've been on the taxis 4 years. I don't seem to get tips on uber like I did on taxis plus what you pay uber the driver doesn't get all of it. In the past I've asked uber passengers what they have paid and felt sick to the stomach knowing how much of a difference uber take off the fare for what the drivers get
Can't afford the ridiculous prices anyway. So no.
But think I used 1 taxi after over a year and that was an emergency.
Don't like using taxis.
Nosy drivers
Paulyousef28 they're not nosey you dipstick, it's there job to chew the fat with their customers.. be abit awkward to get in a taxi & not talk... I'm an ex taxi driver & to be quite honest I wasn't remotely interested in people's lives, it's just good to talk.. it passes the time..
jamie140 numpty just because you were not interested in people's lives doesn't mean the drivers I got were like you you numpty
I very rarely get a taxi. Actually in my whole adult life I think I've used 2. If it was exceptional experience and I could afford to, I'd weigh up the experience and overall price before considering a tip though.
It would probably cost £50 just to travel a road or two in my area (not that I'd pay for a taxi for that! just my idea of the prices)
I understand that it is costly to run a business, especially a Taxi service, now with fuel/electric costs going up, insurances and even car cleaning services. They also can't budget for if someone were to bring anything in with them and you might not know until weeks or months afterwards, so you can't charge that person like you could if they vomit in it. Especially if it was something like bringing in fleas or bed bugs etc. Normal upkeep and car cleaning isn't going to keep them away if they get in and lay eggs etc.
I did end up getting my first Uber in Bournemouth - as it was only a couple of pounds and I was having a bad breathing day, so it was very much worth it for my own health reasons and was needed. The driver was lovely. Although he spoke to my partner the whole time... I'd have rather of sat in silence we weren't going far. With apps like Uber though a great review can be better than a tip, unless you do both obviously.
We also got a taxi in Weymouth, but it was super cheap, we were splitting it between 3 of us and it saved us so much time and effort as we had already had a whole day exploring. It worked out a fair bit cheaper than the bus too!
No way especially when using Uber they charge you over what they state. Had many issues with them charging and not turning up. Local firms barely speak English let alone trust to understand .
If the driver is courteous, turns up when he should & doesn't go the long way round expecting me to pay the extra when I know the route like the back of hand I DO tip a pound or two, I tip for good service..
The drivers are really grateful, I tell them it might be only a pound or two but if a few people did the same it would soon add up...
Depends on the ride and service. If it's good then I tip. On a £10. fare I'll tip £3 if it's been a good experience.
Never used Uber as it's not available locally.
I do when I’m abroad, as it’s just common practice. But I rarely take a taxi here, and when I have taken them I pay by card, so I don’t add a tip to the fee
I've always tipped the Taxi drivers because I believed that they didn't earn a great wage, but recently the prices have become really expensive and one of my friends now drives a taxi and says that the earnings are really good.
