I heard this and thought, how can they warrant charging that much. At Christmas, if you send lots of cards, the price will be ridiculous. It will put lots of people off especially if your on a low income.

Cheaper to get on the bus and deliver it and do your shopping at the same time lol.

It is way over the top, cheaper to buy a card than a stamp. More people will use second class stamps. We only get post once a week so it doesn’t matter what postage goes on.

I very rarely post anything these days. Our service is very hit and miss. Some times you get post everyday, other times you go a week or 2 without and then get a huge bundle in one go. They are short staffed where we are but haven't advertised for new staff.

When you consider the cost involved in moving a letter from you local post box to anywhere in the country is £1.65 really a lot these days?

I remember reading once that the service for 1st Class is the same given to 2nd Class is that still true?

2nd Class gets the job done, too.

Prices are an absolute joke now from royal mail, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up shutting down the way they're going

That is a lot but i suppose things have really gone up in price. Wouldn’t be so bad if the service hadn’t really dropped off in last few years.

I was doing a ebay package this morning for a small leaflet and I noticed the first class option had gone up from £2.70 I think to £3.30. I used the 48 tracked service anyway which remains at £2.70 and has higher insurance included but still a 60p increase is quite a lot. I think the first class postage that was £2.10 is now £2.50 (100g or less). Quite an increase. Yodel do a 1kg parcel service for £2.69. So the royal mail price isn't really competitive.

However a strike a year or so ago built up a lot of debt which they are now servicing and they are of course looking to cut back on staff. Then there is the legal costs of all those post office claims for false imprisonment etc. I remember when the Royal Mail was a really good company but now it seems to be a bit of a mess and likely to see a huge reduction in overall sales. Like others here I find my letter post service often very slow with bundles of post delivered days later than expected. I.e. they are doing less deliveries now. This can only reduce the level of first and second class post and mean such deliveries may be even slower as less letters to deliver again so they allow them to build up more before delivering.

Now I will be slightly increasing my postage costs on ebay to account for these increases. I doubt if I'll bother to change older listings but new listings will have increased postage costs.

I forsee the end of sending greeting cards. The cards I buy are cheaper than £1.65.

I think large rises in the cost of stamps are self defeating as people will use the service less, they are in an ever decreasing circle. Raise prices, less stamps are bought, so they raise prices and less stamps are bought.... The company will implode 😲 then we will be back to pony post!

tumblespots that's true, I wouldn't opt for first class anymore, price of a stamp id more than the cost of the cards I send at Christmas
