Toy You Always Wanted but Didn't Get?
Other
I always wanted mousetrap and asked for about 3 years but no luck my mum used to say if you loose 1 piece then it's ruined we didn't have much money so maybe she was rigjt!
I wanted a nosy bear really badly one Christmas and was gutted when I didn't get one instead I got a panda which just wasn't the same.
Another thing I wanted was a Mr Frosty. I never got one of those but when my own kids asked for one I bought them one and realised how rubbish they were and such a waste of money.
rowley1943 yeah you don't forget.
I always gone to great lengths to ensure my kids have got what they asked for Christmas with in reason (budget permitting) after not getting the bear. Mine never asked for ridiculous expensive presents just sometime they were different to get hold of.
I've had find a cuckoo clock when my son was around 4 or 5 like the one from Peppa Pig that would be suitable and child friendly and not cost the earth.
One year he asked for a small Ben 10 figure that was a bit of an older model and oos everywhere. I said to my son I was struggling to find one he said don't worry Santa will bring one. I paid around 3 times the RRP for a second hand one on eBay not to disappoint him on Christmas morning.
There was other times when I had to use stock checker and chase around many stores for popular items..
The last time was when the X box series S got released, they had never had a new console before and I'd saved and saved but had to refresh various site the morning of release to get my hands on and closer to Christmas they were even harder to get.
I have no idea if they'll ever realise the lengths I went to to make sure they go what they wanted.
ILOVEFANTA wow I admire you! Things you have done for your children is inspirational you must sit them.down when they get older and tell.them this and how much you love them Thank you so.so much for sharing this it's wonderful!
ILOVEFANTA I also coveted a Mr Frosty, even though they were about as robust as a glass hammer.
A few years ago I was talking to my Mum & Sister about toys they always wanted.
My Mum wanted an Amazing Robot game
Apparently you asked it questions and it spun around and always got the right answer, or some such.
And my Sister wanted Connect 4 - so I managed to nip onto eBay and got them both for Christmas.
rowley1943 They were, although with many of these things I don't know if the games fully lived up to expectations.
I always wanted TCR (Technical Car Racing) It was slot car racing but you could change lanes to overtake your competitor.
I remember feeling disappointed when I got Scalextric instead, although I soon realised Scalextric was far superior.
blacklabrador thats amazing you were able to find the robot game. I bet they were both loved them. eBay is great place to find older toys & games.
Mr Frosty was like a cruel joke. A toy intended for kids which requires the arm strength of a body builder to operate. I remember getting one for Christmas and being totally unable to turn the handle, so my old man puffed out his chest and did it himself, only to be visibly sweating after making a tiny cup of red slushy
An RC car. I could buy it now, but it's too late. Don't care anymore.
I'd rather just drive a real car now.
I also wanted Katie copycat doll. I had loads of dolls but was desperate for this one. I also wanted a calculator watch but landed up with timex.
My friend had a driving game I was desperate for as a kid. Never got it. Now given how tech is yup with the parents on it. It woukd have rubbish
I actually can't think of any toys I wanted but never got as a child. I do remember buying a few albums I really wanted with my pocket money, only to have my mum take them off me because she thought they were unsuitable for kids. I'm still stewing about the Red Hot Chilli Peppers album she confiscated, only to then start buying their albums herself several years later, and even going to their live gigs
FearLoathing love that band I am really cross with myself for replacing all my albums for cds what was I thinking so foolish I'm trying to buy them again but t hey cost a fortune!
There's a lot of money in records. My partner prefers vinyl over CD or digital. I've put up three vinyl racks on the wall for her above the turntable. The nice thing about vinyl is that the cover art can easily double as wall art when you put them on display, and the wall art changes as you listen to records and stack different records at the front when you put them back after listening. The sound quality is inferior, but it does have character. My mum and my grandparents did the sane as you, chucked all theirs out and then regretted it once they saw how much they're worth.
I also wanted keepers as a child. I may have brought some off ebay. My oh keeps wanting to get rid of the child's toys I'm like um no. Mainly cos I got a load of vintage toys off ebay. We've got the 1980s fisher price little people, gl9w worms, cabbage patch figures and windy furniture
I always wanted care bears and Polly Pocket. But my parents couldn't afford them. I'd look at them in a shop. I can even remember looking at a Polly Pocket and asking for it but my mum said no.
KAW18 same here money was the problem.at our house or lack of it but my mum.did her best!
rowley1943 yes I now understand how difficult it must of been and why I couldn't have what I wanted
My 2 daughters wanted care bears when they first came out. I was a single parent at the time and couldn't afford them, so I did the only thing I could do .... I made them one each! Both had different colours and different hearts on their stomach Those care are still " alive" today, and my eldest daughters are in their early 40s
I wanted a girls world which was a life size head on a block and you could cut the hair then pull more through so it was long again, they sold out so my mom could not get one.
I wanted a PC Engine games console back in the late 80s but they weren't officially imported in the UK so the console and cartridges were really expensive. Later I played some of the games via emulation and they weren't amazing but still good. It wasn't anywhere near as good as the Megadrive or Super Nintendo but at the time magazines like Computer and Videogames would feature and review PC Engine titles and they seemed amazing but in reality they certainly didn't justify the console and game prices.
I was very lucky as I got all the toys that I asked for. Saying that I didn't ask for much. I would ask for one for my birthday and some at Christmas and I was fortunate enough to get them. I was never one of those kids that wanted all of the latest crazes or felt I was missing out if a friend had something I didn't.
I always wanted a Teddy Ruxspin since I was a kid. I'm now a grandmother of a 21 month old and my Son and Daughter in law overheard me talking about it to my Husband. They managed to get me one and I was over the moon
I always wanted a train set, but as a girl growing up in the 70s I got dolls instead. As I wasn't a girly girl, I always thought boys had better toys
Growing up in the 70's I wanted Clackers, as we called them....2 solid hard balls on a piece of string.... But I was not allowed them as my Mum said they were dangerous..... Which at the time I couldn't understand..... But certainly do as an adult....xx
