Do You Have Turkey at Christmas?

Ask a Question

I was just wondering, what meat you guys have at Christmas ? I have noticed, a few friends have changed to different meats.

Me personally. I still have Turkey 😊

JLouM we only have Turkey twice a year. Easter and Christmas 🎄.

We love a Christmas dinner. So we decided over 20 years ago to have one at Easter too 😊

Yes absolutely but my son also likes to have duck but don’t really do it as it’s only him that’ll eat it

I am vegetarian but my son is a true meat lover - although these days for Christmas my wife will roast a chicken as the main meat - but we buy slices of roast beef and turkey to go along side the chicken. Just easier that way and he gets lots of meat!

We might get a turkey crown, but no, we usually choose to have a roast beef or lamb, as they’re more flavourful

We have duck every year.

I get the crown. I cook it with bacon and put it in the slow cooker. There's only 2 of us that eat it

Yes we have turkey, it’s only Dad and me, so we only get a crown or breasts. I personally would prefer something else as I do eat a lot of chicken anyway but it’s tradition so we have turkey.

We have turkey, ham, and beef. We normally have 12-14 people at our house over Christmas. Doing the 3 meats mean everyone is catered for

We like Pork, we never buy Turkey, this year our daughter is home alone with our 2 cats as her Support Worker parents are on shift for the same company at different ends of Sheffield!..

Our 26 year old daughter is getting a

M & S Christmas meal for her treat from us as we can't be with her, she completely understands & our 2 cats will get a special meal too..

We are having our Christmas on 27th December when my partner, daughter & I are together, we will have our Christmas meal out & pay for my partner's brother to join us as he usually spends Christmas Day with us..

We might have Turkey as part of our meal it depends what is on the menu...

Nope I hate how they a bred massively just for Christmas, many of it then goes to waste. I've heard people say they don't particularly like it, it's dry, uninteresting and they get bored a day after if they try and eat the left overs. I'm not a veggie, but disagree with the tradition. Sure if you are traditional, you actually like it and will eat most of it, go for it. But it's not for me.

I had a sandwich last Christmas as I wasn't very well, was the only thing I ate that day. Did the same a few years before. Actually it is now the only time I tend to have a roast dinner at all. Beef or Chicken is my preference, but I'm there for the roast potatoes!! 😂

I always used to have turkey, but since being diagnosed with diabetes, I have lamb. I find that more of a treat, as I'm not really supposed to eat lamb very often, but turkey, I can eat all year.

tara73ziva I cooked Turkey and pork one year and put them on the same plate after carving. My son thought he'd put some of each on his plate but had only had pork. Now we only have Turkey saves any confusion lol

We used to but then half of the family don’t even like it so we used to buy another joint of meat to go with it. Now we just buy either pork or beef cause everyone likes that.

We have always had turkey as tradition but last year with different meats on offer we opted for beef and managed to pick a turkey crown up after Xmas reduced so had that at Easter.

Always poultry for us. We've had goose a few times but always go back to turkey because of the value for money and how much meat you can get off a carcass. Ironically, and it seems unlike most people, I leave the breast for sandwiches. Instead I go for the wings, neck, offal etc. for the stronger flavours and gelatinous textures, but you can't seem to buy them separately anywhere other than for pet food.

I will never not have turkey. I have as many Xmas dinners as it's possible for me to have every year, purely for the turkey and the cranberry sauce. I never eat it any other time.

We always have Turkey. I usually buy one in the sale just after Xmas and freeze it for the next Xmas. I couldn't get one last year though so will have to buy full price.

If you don't have a massive turkey then what leftovers do you have? Is it even Christmas without unused Turkey?

I can't remember the last time I had a turkey roast dinner, its quite a dry meat and actually prefer chicken plus normally at Christmas we would have beef as we prefer it. However in recent years just for ease of cooking and the novelty we have had steak dinners which are expensive with the cost of steaks. We don't really have steak through the year unless found on offer so makes it more of a special occasion.

For me it’s not Christmas without turkey. I cook it through the night on low so we wake up and smell turkey. And that is a tradition for us. New year we like beef
