Ask a Question

Hi looking for some advice I purchased an OLED TV over 1 year ago its not even coming on now it cost me just under £3,000 it's hardly been used as I only watch tv at the weekend I have contacted LG they said contact currys but currys aren't interested surely a tv should last a lot longer that over a year iam absolutely raging about it all I was wondering if the citizens advice would be able to give me any advice I had it sitting in the house for 2 months before I got someone to hang it on the wall so not even been used much

I would have thought there is some right of return as long as you have a receipt. You may find it helpful to check Martin Lewis' website (link was removed) about returns. Good luck!

Consumer thank you I will check that out 🤩 yes I will have the receipt intact I have it online as I took a screenshot of it to send to my partner because he contacted LG but they aren't interested you would think all that money for a tv that you would get a better warranty normally tvs last us for years iam so mad about it just dont kno what i can do 🙃😭thanks for your comment

Sounds like you maIy have to go to the small claims court unless 3,000 is too high a claim for the small claims court. It certainly isn't fair that something costing that much has only lasted a year with very light use. I really can't see there being any problem in getting a huge chunk of your money back.

BonzoBanana is it expensive to take someone to the small claims court do you know anyone who has done it I can't believe it's not working after this short time I was looking up the Internet and lg had trouble with tvs years ago to do with the motherboard I thought that might be the same as mine thanks for your comment

kate1310 I took Comet to the small claims court years ago, it was relatively easy, filled in a form with the details. It was a Sagem rear projection TV which I bought when I first moved into my house. It kept buzzing. In the end I got most of my money back but the court took some money off because I'd had the use of the TV for about 9 months, I can't remember what that was something like £50-100 and the TV cost about £500. I got my court costs back maybe £15 as well. Turned out Comet had been sending all correspondence to the wrong address and no surprise they went out of business going by the Yeovil branch which were utterly incompetent. I remember feeling the settlement was ok rather than getting everything I wanted.

I also had an issue with a Panasonic plasma TV which had the purple worms fault (weird patterning on the screen), Currys/Dixons refused to do anything about it but I contacted Panasonic and they organised a full refund so that was a much better experience and I learned never to buy from Currys again.

BonzoBanana good for you its a disgrace the way your treated after you purchase something, we'll I email currys again last night I stated about customer rights and the law told them I was getting someone in to look at my tv and if its there fault they will be paying the bill and I was taking them to a small claims court they messaged me back saying they will come collect the tv I have to pay £125 if its there fault I will get a refund if its not they will tell me how much it will be to repair it and I won't get the £125 back I have to phone them to get a date so hopefully I get it sorted 🤞🙏 thank you so much for your great advice 🤩

You're within your rights to a refund or replacement, but might not be easy if they make it so.

Read it here: www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds#:~:text=You%20can%20ask%20a%20customer,(5%20years%20in%20Scotland).

The most I spent on a TV was about £330 (around 2015ish for a 32" LCD FullHD LG) while newer ones were less. Just don't see the point to spending too much on a TV.

And that TV from 9 or 10 years ago still works great.

Have you checked the fault finder in the manual, checked the fuse in plug, registered it with maker upon purchase? I have recently bought 3 items of white goods and spent quite a while online registering them to get an extra 5 years warrant. If all else fails Google your rights on are tv's still under guarantee after one year.

Lynibis yes my partner checked all that replaced battery's I have never had a problem with tvs in the past thats probably why I didn't look at cover and ordered it online so probably didn't even notice it was taking hrs to come on for a few days then just stopped the light won't even come in 🙃thanks for your comment I will Google and see I did Google a few things 🙃

Sorry to hear that but I certainly would not pay that kind of money for a TV. I have a 55 Inch 4K smart JVC TV & I paid £300 for It. I dont get why the manufacture dont fix It If Its still under warranty. Currys are only the suppliers. Try a hard reset If you have a light on. I am sure you can search through Google on how to do that. Good luck.

At £3000 I would definitely have got an extended warranty, I personally only purchase electrical items with a 3 or 5 year warranty, stuff today just doesn't last long, I got a free 5 year warranty with my TV

kate1310 I would bombard LG with emails explaining your situation, they might give in eventually , it should have lasted longer than 12 months, I paid £2000 for our Philips Oled in the sale, and picture quality wise it's not much better than the 4K one I paid £500 for, that was still going after 4 year's , i was persuaded into the Oled hype, wish I hadn't have bothered to be honest
