Types of Shops That You Can See Disappearing from the High Street
Other
Hi all.
With everything constantly going up in price and people having to watch what they spend as well as the popularity of online shopping and technology constantly advancing, some businesses have been struggling and have had to close.
I personally think these types of businesses will be disappearing from the high street at some point.
Fish and chip shops
Once a staple that everybody could afford. But unfortunately, that isn't so much the case now and is becoming more of a luxury. I think eventually, fish and chip shops will really struggle as more people won't be able to afford them, thus eventually becoming a thing of the past.
Card shops
Much like with everything else, postage costs keep rising. Because of this as well as advancing technology and people wanting to more environmentally friendly, eCards are increasing in popularity. We no longer have Birthdays (the card shop) and Clintons was in danger of closing down at some point. I wouldn't be surprised to see Card Factory going into administration at some point during this decade.
Since supermarkets bake bread I’ve noticed less bakeries. The one in our local town is up for sale but that’s due to retirement. Unfortunately he’s not had any interest selling it as a going concern.
Our fish and chip shops aren't on the high street they are all dotted about on minor roads. I have one about a five minute walk from my house and I think there are about 7 in total. One closed only recently that was close to the town centre. In the town centre there is what is called takeaway alley but none of them are fish and chips they are indian, chinese, fried chicken and possibly something else like kebab but not fish and chips. I can see them thinning out a bit and won't be surprised if we lose 10-20% of fish and chip shops to be honest as a worst case scenario perhaps over the next 5 years. Hopefully not though.
BonzoBanana we have a fish and chips down there round from us, the portion has gotten so small costing £10!! Ridiculous! Last time I ate from them had a sh*t damn piece or hair!! Wasn’t the first time it happened, with family it happened like think 3 times absolutely disgusting
kitty88uk My nearest chipshop is about 8 pounds I think for fish and chips and is an ok size portion. To be honest I'm more likely to have the Hungry Horse 2 meals for 12.99 where we both have fish and chips or maybe the Wetherspoons afternoon deal where you get fish and chips at a reduced price and it includes a free hot drink with free refills. I can't remember what that cost but it might be around 8-9 pounds but I typically have 2 refills so 3 hot drinks included.
BonzoBanana yeah that sounds better bargain two meals at that price!! Oh yeah at a reduced price is great too!! Much better free hot drink and refills!! where about do you live?
There’s so many places to eat here in Leeds city centre but I’m guessing pricey cause on the high street
Don’t eat out much lol
I agree about card shops, it certainly comes to something when stamps often cost more than the cards.
I kind of disagree with the fish and chip shop one, for us its the cheapest of takeaways! We can easily do chippy tea under £20 but a Chinese or Indian we have no chance!
HannahSunderlan this is so true Chinese takeaway can be more expensive!! But it depends where you live, takeaways you can have a more variety of foods
Where I live fish and chips the portion has gotten smaller now costing £10
Pfft not to damn mention their hairs in it! Happened more than once
They should damn wear hair nets!! Disgusting
